About BMI Regional

INFORMATION UPDATE: On 16 February 2019, BMI Regional shut down their operations, and are no longer offering BMI Regional flights. The information below refers to the period BMI Regional was still operating.

A leading British regional airline, bmi regional, also styled as ‘fly bmi’, provides many domestic routes throughout the UK as well as short haul flights to other European destinations. It was previously a subsidiary of British Airways but is now completely independent, and together with the Scotland-based airline, Loganair, forms the holding company, Airline Investments Ltd Group. With a presence in the UK and 10 other European countries, bmi regional maintains a staff of 400 employees at British and other European airports. The company is headquartered at East Midlands Airport. According to the Civil Aviation Authority’s statistics, 90% or more of bmi regional flights are on time, making it one of the most efficiently run airlines in Britain.

How do I check in online with bmi regional?

You can easily check-in online with bmi regional via the online check-in link, which is prominently displayed on the home page of the fly bmi website. Simply enter your surname and booking reference in the boxes provided. However, if your flight number doesn’t start with BM, but with LM, LH or SN, it means your flight is being operated by one of bmi regional’s code share partners, which are Air Dolomiti, Loganair, Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines, respectively. In those cases, you need to check-in online with those airlines via their websites. bmi regional online check-in is available from 48 hours to three hours before the flight departs. Airport check-in is available from 90 minutes before flight departure and the gates to departing flights close 20 minutes prior to departure.

What is my checked baggage allowance on bmi regional?

As is the case with all airlines, bmi regional baggage allowance is based on both the size and weight of your baggage. If you purchase Sale, Classic or Classic Plus tickets for your flight, you can check-in one piece of baggage weighing up to 23 kg free of charge. If you purchase ‘Executive fare’ tickets, you’re allowed two pieces of baggage each weighing up to 23 kg, or a combined total not exceeding 46 kg free of charge. If you exceed these weight limits, your baggage will be subject to excess baggage charges. If you are travelling with an infant, you’re entitled to an extra 10 kg of free checked hand baggage and one stroller, which must be fully collapsible.

Note that valuables can’t be carried in checked baggage. These include money, jewellery, electronic devices and important documents. In addition, your checked baggage mustn’t include e-cigarettes, which are considered a fire risk due to being powered by lithium batteries. Those and spare lithium batteries must be carried in your hand luggage. Items that are considered a security risk, but not a fire or explosive risk, must be carried as checked baggage and not cabin baggage. These include sharp objects and toy guns. No other items that could present an explosive or fire risk may be carried on the aircraft at all.

What hand luggage can I take on bmi regional?

Unless you’re travelling on an Executive fare ticket, bmi regional cabin baggage restrictions are such that you can carry one piece of hand luggage plus a small purse, laptop or other small item at the discretion of check-in staff. No extra hand luggage allowance is made for passengers travelling with an infant. The dimensions of your main hand luggage bag mustn’t exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm, nor weigh more than 12 kg. Valuable and fragile, but oversized, items, such as musical instruments, can be carried in the cabin if a seat is bought for them.

If you’re travelling on Executive fare, you’re allowed two pieces of hand luggage, each with the same dimensions and weight restrictions as non Executive fare tickets. If any item of hand luggage, regardless of your class of ticket, exceeds the maximum dimensions or weight restrictions, it will be placed in the hold and returned to you as you disembark from the aircraft. If your destination airport is Southampton, East Midlands or Graz, it will be returned in the airport baggage reclaim area.

Items that are considered a security risk such as scissors, knives, darts, and other sharp objects can’t be carried as hand baggage and must be stored in the hold with your checked baggage. All bottles of liquids mustn’t contain more than 100ml and must be carried in a single resealable bag for easy inspection by airport security staff. The bag must be clear plastic, no larger than 20 cm x 20 cm and not have a capacity greater than one litre.
