Thanksgiving is primarily a North American holiday, but many of us in the UK are also looking forward to celebrating this festivity. And why shouldn’t we? Surely enough, all of us have something to be thankful for. If you feel the same way, here is a checklist of things you can do this year to celebrate Thanksgiving in style:

Travel to New York City – Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thanksgiving is no longer just about the harvest and the pilgrims. It’s about family, friends, festive food, decorations…and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Anyone who lives in the United States will tell you that Thanksgiving is just not the same without this extravagant spectacle of floats, giant helium balloons, marching bands and live music performers. Some of the characters you can expect to see this year include Snoopy and Woodstock, Toothless the mythical dragon, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and Gru’s Minions, straight out of “Despicable me 2”.

Still uncertain about how you would like to celebrate Thanksgiving? Travelling to New York is always a good idea!

A time for arts and crafts

It’s the season to let your imagination run wild, so grab your coloured paper, glue and scissors, and get creative! Whether alone or with some help from your family and friends, decorating your house for Thanksgiving is not only a fun way to pass the time, it also puts you in a festive mood.

Giving thanks

Before sitting down to enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner, why not ask your guests to share a thing or two about what they’re most thankful for? Thanksgiving is all about being grateful and appreciative of what you have. It’s also a good time to show your generous side by helping those in need. You could make a donation towards a charitable cause or lend a helping hand at your local homeless shelter – any help is well appreciated, especially this time of year.

If you’re looking to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, then the turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy cannot be missing from your table. And for desert, a delicious, classic pumpkin pie will do the trick!

Board games and after dinner activities

Playing board games

Playing board games, watching football, going ice skating…the important thing is that you spend some quality time with your loved ones. And after such a copious meal, it’s good to take it easy and relax.

We wish you a lovely Thanksgiving, wherever you decide to celebrate it!
