Show your partner just how much you love them by planning a surprise romantic getaway to one of the world’s most magnificent destinations.

No idea where to get started? No worries, we have a few suggestions to get you going, including traditionally romantic cities like Paris, and more exotic destinations such as Kyoto.

These are our favorite romantic destinations for 2014:

1. Venice, Italy

Venice

In Venice you and your partner are invited to discover a labyrinth of magical canals, enjoy a romantic gondola ride, share a plate of Italian homemade pasta and cross hundreds of tiny bridges that connect 118 islands. Many say that Venice is a place best experienced when in love

2. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Tango Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is a city of seduction that is said to provoke unanticipated desires. Learn how to tango, enjoy al fresco dining, watch street-performances and uncover the secrets of  Latin American history and culture as you stroll along the city’s boulevards. Spending Valentine’s Day in one of the world’s most passionate cities is not such a bad idea…or?

3. Paris, France

Paris

Paris, the city of love. When it comes to romantic getaways, the capital of France is a classic. Start off the day by walking along the Seine and discovering the Champs Elysees. Later in the evening watch the Eiffel Tower as it lights up and enjoy a candlelight dinner at one of the top Parisian restaurants. If cost is not an issue, we recommend Le Jules Verne or La Grande Cascade – two incredibly fabulous restaurants that will make your Valentine’s day nothing short of memorable!

4. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague

Prague is a city of fairly tales, full of charming streets, antique clocks and castles. Take your partner by the hand and guide them past the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge, two of the most popular and romantic locations in town. A great way to end the day is by booking a table at one of the restaurants in the main square – from here you will not only have a great view of the astronomical clock, but you will also be able to watch the street performers as they put on a show for passersby.

5. Kyoto, Japan

Kyoto

Even though Japan is not a place to be visited in a weekend, and the Cherry Blossom season takes places towards the end of March, we still felt that Kyoto belongs on this list. Whether you decide to enjoy a rickshaw ride together, relax in the dreamy Japanese gardens, wonder in the bamboo forest, or discover the temples and shrines scattered throughout town, you will definitely have a fantastically different and exotic Valentine’s Day.
