And now, the topic that is on most travellers minds, what am I going to read while on my holidays? At Opodo we polled our clients and found out the profile of the average European reader and see the top 5 books of summer 2013. Check out the infographic below!

You will perhaps be surprised to know that women read more than men (72% against 28%) or that F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is what most women will be reading, followed closely by Dan Brown’s Inferno, and Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. The popularity of these books is undoubtedly due to the adaptation of these works to the big screen (Dan Brown’s previous two novels had great success in the cinema).

As for the type of reading itself, it is focused primarily on novels, travel guides and digital tablets (on which everyone can read gossip columns discreetly, claiming it’s the world news).

Among other things that we have discovered about our Opodo fans, one is that they have the spirit of a real traveler because 37% of them claim to read travel guides during their holidays.

Find out what we discovered specifically about the English, French, Italians, and Germans when it comes to their reading habits…the results may surprise you…

Happy reading and bon voyage!
