Getting there
The country may be known for its high cost of living, but its extensive air links with Europe means it is possible to find cheap flights to Sweden. From London, direct scheduled flights to Stockholm are operated by SAS, British Airways and Finnair. BMI and SAS also run a London-Gothenburg non-stop route.
Airports
Stockhold Arlanda (ARN), situated about 35km from the capital, is the country’s biggest international airport, followed by Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT). Stockholm Västerås (VST) also serves flights from London and Copenhagen. You might find cheap flights to Sweden landing at Stockholm Skavsta (NYO), but the airport is about 100km from the city. Another good option for southern Sweden is flying in to Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) and getting a train across the border.
When to go
Unless you’re a winter sports enthusiast, the best time to visit Sweden is high summer, when the long days and mild weather allow for island boat trips, walking tours and outdoor festivals. However, winter has its own perks, including ice skating, the northern lights, excellent museums and the Ice Hotel – and at that time of year you’ll also find it‘s easier to get hold of cheap flights to Sweden.
