Getting there
Caracas (the capital) has excellent air links with North American and Europe, so with a bit of planning you should have no problem getting cheap flights to Venezuela. Although there are currently no direct flights from the UK, the following airlines operate non-stop routes from European centres:
- Air France (from Paris)
- Alitalia (from Rome and Milan)
- Iberia (Madrid)
- Lufthansa (Frankfurt)
- TAP (Lisbon and Oporto)
Many North American carriers also fly direct, and a host of local and Latin American airlines also provide air links with the rest of the country and South and Central America.
Airports
International flights land at Caracas Simon Bolivar (CCS), Maracaibo (MAR) and Valencia (VLN). However services to the latter two destinations are limited, so your best bet for finding cheap flights to Venezuela is to fly into Simon Bolivar, which is about 40 minutes from Caracas
When to go
Peak tourist season runs from about November to February, so book in advance if you’re hoping to find cheap flights to Venezuela during these months. April to June is a great time of year to visit and to get the best deals, as beaches and other tourist areas are quieter. Temperatures are warm to hot year-round, cooling slightly moving inland and climbing again in the southern plateau. The rainy season is generally from June to October.
For some truly mighty sights. The Angel Falls is the highest in the world, sluicing down uninterrupted for over 800 metres (although less impressive in the dry months). Trek into the thick Amazon jungle, go on expeditions along the Orinoco River, scale lofty Andean peaks, or simply while away your days on the idyllic Los Roques islands.
