Activities in Dublin

Dublin is a comparatively compact city and a leisurely walk is the best way to take it in. It's also a great way to mix two of Dublin's most well-known attributes, its literary heritage and pub culture.

There are several guided walking tours that tell you about the life and works of Ireland's writers as you stop at significant sites, sometimes accompanied by actors playing the role of the literary heroes. As several of the city's writers had favourite drinking haunts, some of the tours pop into a pub so you can toast the literary legends on their home turf.

If you want to appreciate their works in more sober surroundings, pay a visit to the Dublin Writers Museum; it holds regular talks and exhibitions dedicated to the city's literary history.

Another place to call on is the beautifully restored 18th century house that houses the James Joyce Centre, dedicated to the works of the author of Ulysses and Finnegans Wake.
