Made up of three main islands – North, South and Stewart Island (also known as Rakiura) – New Zealand is a stunning mix of lakes, mountains, forests and farmlands. The country also boasts more than 700 smaller islands.

New Zealand is situated between Antarctica and the tropics and has a mild climate. Temperatures rarely drop beneath 0°C and peaks around 30°C. The west coast of the South Island is cooler and wetter than the Northland, which is dry and sub–tropical.
Summers are usually warmer in the northern parts of the country and winter, which falls in European summertime, can be cold.
The weather in this beautiful country can be unpredictable, however, and many say it is quite possible to experience four seasons in one day on the islands.
