About Swiss

Founded in 2002 after Swissair was declared bankrupt, Swiss International Air Lines, also known as Swiss, is the country's national flag carrier. Its main hub is Zürich Airport with Geneva Airport the hub for its focus city operations. It is owned by the Lufthansa Group and is a member of the Star Alliance. It has codeshare agreements with other Star Alliance members such as Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airways, Air Canada and Air India. Additional codeshare arrangements have also been formed with airlines not part of the Star Alliance, such as El Al Israel Airlines, Air Malta and Ukraine International Airlines.

Swiss has a fleet in service of over 60 aircraft that fly to more than 100 destinations worldwide. German destinations that the airline fly to include Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin and Munich whilst the Spanish destinations that it flies to encompass the enthralling cities of Santiago de Compostela, Valencia, Malaga and Barcelona. It also flies to Birmingham Airport and London City Airport in the United Kingdom.

Online check-in

Passengers travelling on a Swissair flight can check in online from 23 hours prior to the departure of the flight. It is possible to check in via a computer or even a tablet or smartphone. During the check in process, passengers are able to select the seat they would like to sit in. Once check in has been completed, it is possible to print the boarding pass right away or have it emailed in order to be printed at a later date. The boarding pass can also be saved on a mobile phone to make it even easier to go straight to the gate when travelling solely with hand baggage.

Hand luggage allowance

The amount of hand luggage allowed on Swissair flights is dependent on the type of ticket the passenger has purchased. Economy Class passengers are allowed 1 piece of hand baggage weighing up to 8 kg whilst Business and First Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of luggage, each weighing up to 8 kg. The dimensions of the luggage must not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm and must be stored either under the seat in front of the passenger or in the overhead lockers. Liquids in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 ml are allowed on board. All containers must fit into a re-sealable plastic bag.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of hold luggage a passenger is allowed to take with them on Swissair flights depends on the type of ticket they have purchased. Passengers who have bought a Light ticket are not allowed any free checked baggage whilst Classic and Flex ticket holders can take 1 piece of hold luggage weighing up to 23 kg. Business Class passengers can take 2 pieces of luggage with them each weighing up to a maximum of 32 kg. No piece of hand baggage may exceed 158 cm when all dimensions have been added together. Luggage that is deemed to exceed all size and weight restrictions will be treated as excess luggage and subsequently incurs a charge.

Excellent. For a tall passenger the metal edge of the overhead locker door is an unexpected hazard.

Flight delay on the way out meant that I missed my first appointment. Not helpful. More information and clearer information would have been useful

Seats are the same at others but you have a space either side so you feel as if you have plenty of room. Good service from crew and nice food

Swiss were great - but both flights were late! For the return flight, Lufthansa AGAIN let me down by cancelling my flight out of Geneva. They are becoming the world's worst airline after being one of the best just 10 years ago. I had to queue for hours to get rescheduled and a hotel for the night.
