About BA Cityflyer

BA CityFlyer is a regional air carrier serving destinations in the United Kingdom and Europe. It is a wholly owned subsidiary that was set up by British Airways in 2007. After British Airways sold the majority of its BA Connect operations to Flybe, it decided to resurrect the previously existing CityFlyer Express brand, which had been previously based at London Gatwick Airport. Although its headquarters are in Didsbury, Manchester, its operating centres are located at London City Airport and London Stansted Airport. It has a fleet of 20 Embraer airplanes.

The company serves 24 different destinations, some of which are predominately seasonal routes that operate in either summer or winter. Most routes cover popular beach destinations such as Ibiza, Mykonos and Santorini plus popular metropolitan locations like Amsterdam, Florence and Dublin. It also offers charter services in addition to its scheduled flights. Through its parent airline it is an affiliate of the oneworld alliance.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online or on their mobile for BA CityFlyer flight from 24 hours prior to departure. This allows them to print or download their boarding card. Mobile and online check-in close 1 hour before a flight, however it is also possible to check in at the airport using either the airline's check-in counters or one of the self-service kiosks. Airport check-in at London City Airport is open until just 20 minutes before a flight is due to leave. At London Stansted Airport it is open until 45 minutes before departure. Passengers can also drop off any checked baggage at the airport counters.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers may bring 2 items of hand luggage onto their BA CityFlyer flight. The first may be up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm while the second is permitted to be up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm in size. Hand luggage must weigh no more than 23 kg per item. There are sizers at the airline's check-in counters for passengers to check that their hand luggage falls within these limits, including wheels, handles and pockets. If they do not, passengers may be charged to have these items checked into the aircraft's hold. Duty-free purchases cannot be carried in addition to these items and must fit inside one of the 2 bags.

Checked baggage allowance

Economy passengers can check in 1 item of luggage weighing up to 23 kg on their BA CityFlyer flight, while Business class passengers are allowed to check in 2 items each weighing up to 32 kg. First class passengers can check in 3 items each weighing up to 32 kg. Infants may check in 1 item weighing up to 23 kg. This can be a car seat or a collapsible stroller. There are excess baggage fees applicable to any items that do not fit within a passenger's specified baggage allowance, and the airline will refuse to carry any bag that weighs over 32 kg for health and safety reasons.
