About Mango

Mango Airlines is a South African carrier that offers low-cost flights to destinations in South Africa and Tanzania. The airline, which trades as Mango, is a subsidiary of the national carrier South African Airways and is owned by the country's government. It operates from a hub at OR Tambo International Airport, close to Johannesburg, where it houses a fleet of 10 aircraft. This fleet is made up of Boeing 737s. Cape Town is also a focus city for the airline.

The company operates routes to 8 different airports in 7 cities. Aside from its base at OR Tambo Airport, the airline also serves flights to Lanseria International Airport in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein Airport, George Airport, Port Elizabeth Airport, King Shaka International Airport in Durban, Cape Town International Airport and Bloemfontein Airport in South Africa, as well as Zanzibar International Airport in Tanzania. The airline does not have any codeshare agreements in addition to its partnership with South African Airways and has not joined any alliances.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for Mango Airlines flights using their date of birth and booking reference. This service is open from 24 hours before a flight leaves up until 2 hours before departure. Mobile check-in is also available during the same period. In addition to the online check-in and mobile check-in services, passengers can also check in using self-service kiosks at the airport. These are open between 12 hours and 40 minutes prior to a flight's departure. Online and mobile check-in cannot be used on flights that leave from George Airport or Bloemfontein Airport, plus those flying to or from Zanzibar International Airport.

Hand luggage allowance

Mango Airlines allows Economy class passengers to bring 1 item of hand luggage on board their flight. This is limited to 7 kg in weight and 36 x 23 x 56 cm in size. Passengers flying with the airline may also bring 1 personal item such as a small laptop bag, duty free bag or a handbag. If their hand luggage is deemed too large or too heavy, passengers will have to check it into the airplane's hold instead. In this case, it will count as part of their checked luggage allowance. If this is then exceeded, an additional baggage charge may be applicable.

Checked baggage allowance

Mango Airlines passengers may check in up to 20 kg of luggage for free. As long as they remain within this weight limit, passengers' luggage can consist of as many items as they please. Infants who will be travelling on an adult's lap during the flight have a checked luggage allowance of 10 kg. If passengers exceed their weight allowance they will be charged for carriage of the extra weight. Any one item weighing over 32 kg will not be carried by the airline. Most sporting items are included in the checked luggage allowance. Golf clubs and bicycles cannot be carried as part of a passenger's checked luggage allowance and additional fees will apply for these items.
