About Kulula

Based at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesberg, Comair operates domestic flights in South Africa and international flights to other countries within the African continent. It was founded in 1943 under the name Commercial Air Services and began its first scheduled flights in 1948. The South African airline's headquarters are in Gauteng, South Africa. Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town and King Shaka International Airport in Durban are also primary hub airports for Comair. Using its fleet of 15 Boeing 737 aircrafts, the company serves 11 different destinations.

Comair flies under a franchise from British Airways, using BA livery on its aircraft. It also operates codeshare flights with 5 other airlines including Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Air France. Some of the company's top destinations include Harare in Zimbabwe, Port Elizabeth in South Africa and Windhoek in Namibia. Comair is part of the oneworld alliance as an affiliate member.

Online check-in

As Comair flights are operated under a British Airways franchise, online check-in is available via British Airways. Passengers should use their booking reference number to check in. By checking in online passengers can store a mobile boarding card on their device or print out physical boarding card. Online check-in opens 24 hours ahead of the Comair flight departure time. Depending on their ticket type, passengers may be able to choose a seat while making their booking. If they did not, passengers can pay extra to select a seat later. Passengers can also check in at the airport for British Airways flights that are operated by Comair.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers on Comair flights will receive the same hand luggage allowance as passengers on other British Airways flights. That is, 2 items of hand luggage weighing up to 23 kg. 1 item is subject to a maximum of 45 x 30 x 15 cm in size and the other, 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Passengers can choose to use up a musical instrument as 1 of their hand luggage items. Only 1 item (of the larger 56 x 45 x 25 cm size) is allowed for Infant passengers. A charge will be applicable is hand luggage is either heavier or larger than these limits, as it will then have to be checked into the aircraft's hold.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked luggage allowance on British Airways/Comair flights depends on a passenger's ticket class. While it may vary, in general baggage allowances for passengers include 2 pieces each with a maximum weight of 23 kg for Economy and Premium Economy ticket holders, 2 pieces each with a maximum weight of 32 kg for Club class ticket holders and 3 pieces each with a maximum weight of 32 kg for First class ticket holders. Theoretically, the maximum size for items of hold luggage is 90 x 75 x 43 cm, but British Airways have said that they will waive the normal fees and accept items with dimensions up to 190 x 75 x 65 cm. Anything bigger must be shipped. Items that exceed these weight limits will be subject to an extra charge.
