Getting to and from the airport

Flights departing from London

London is one of the most magical cities in the world and it is known for its contemporary feel and medieval soul. This enchanting city is served by Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick, London City Airport, Stansted and Southend airports. London City Airport is the closest to the city of all these airports and is the most easily accessible.

Flights from London to Derry usually take one and half hours from any of the six London airports. We also need to count the time from London city centre to the airport and from Derry airport to our final destination. Still, the trip is short enough to include it as a great plan for a weekend.

Getting to London airport

London to Derry flights may take off from any of the airports in and around the English capital. Make sure that you know from which airport your Derry flight is taking off. If you have to get to London City Airport, just take a taxi or a bus. However, if you have to reach Luton, Stansted, Southend, Gatwick or Heathrow, you will have to take one of the direct trains from central London. However, if your flight is taking off from Gatwick or Heathrow, you can heave a sigh of relief, as these are connected by high speed trains from central London.

Arriving to Derry

Derry, also known as Londonderry, is Northern Ireland's second largest city. It is known for its old walled city and ancient buildings. Begin your journey at the City Gates, and walk along Shipquay Street and Butcher Street, which are known for their Victorian buildings. You can also visit the Long Tower Church, which is a remarkable building that provides a quiet place to contemplate and meditate. Waterloo Street is known for its pubs and restaurants, which provide an authentic Northern Irish drinking atmosphere. Do not forget to spend some time at the Foyle Bridge, which is known for its quiet atmosphere and scenic location.

How to get to the city centre

Flights to Derry from London don't take a long time to reach the Derry Airport, which is located around 13 kilometres from the city centre. The easiest way to get to downtown Derry is by taking an Ulsterbus to Foyle Street in the centre of the city. Another option is to take one of the City Cabs, which are parked outside the airport terminal. They can be hired immediately and take just 20 minutes to reach the centre; unlike in other cities, these taxis do not cost a lot and you should be able to reach the city for approximately £11.00. However, the prices can vary and you should speak to the driver beforehand.

Not enough security belts open. Large wait and many people were anxious about catching their flights. I and two other passengers just mad it.

Overall the facilities in the airport were good. The airport itself looks a bit shabby and the set down charge £1 with no apparent was unnecessary and profiteering.

Long line to cue for security...was kind of silly to zigzag through all the empty space..

Overall, my first trip with Ryanair was a very good experience. The delay on the return journey was a nuisance but it was due to fog, not a problem with the carrier
