Find the best hotels in Budapest for your next stay

Still wondering what to do in Budapest? Opodo has the top must-see plans so you won't miss a thing. Find everything you need to know before picking your stay in Budapest and book your hotel today!

    Budapest: Pearl of the Danube

Budapest, the beautiful capital of Hungary, is a city divided and defined by the magnificent River Danube, which separates the hilly, historic Buda side from the flat, bustling Pest side. It’s a city renowned for its stunning architecture, vibrant cultural life, and unique thermal spa culture. The most iconic sight is the enormous, neo-Gothic Parliament Building, standing majestically on the Pest embankment.

On the Buda side, you can explore the historic Buda Castle and the fairytale-like Fisherman's Bastion, which offers unparalleled panoramic views of the city. Crossing the elegant Chain Bridge connects you to Pest, where you can visit the massive St. Stephen's Basilica and wander the grand boulevards like Andrássy Avenue. A must-do is experiencing the relaxing atmosphere of the vast, historic thermal baths, such as the Széchenyi Baths.

Where to book your hotel in Budapest

When booking your hotel in Budapest, deciding whether to stay in Buda or Pest is the first choice, though most visitors prefer the vibrancy and convenience of the Pest side.

The most popular and central area is the Inner City (Belváros) in Pest, close to the Danube Promenade, the Chain Bridge, and St. Stephen's Basilica. Staying here puts you in the heart of the city’s dining, nightlife, and shopping scene, with all the main attractions either walkable or a short journey away. This is the perfect area for first-time visitors.

For a quieter, more scenic, and historic experience, consider accommodation on the Buda Hills. While slightly less central, this area offers incredible views of the Parliament and the river, as well as easy access to Buda Castle and the Fisherman's Bastion. You can use the local bus or funicular to quickly connect back to Pest.

Budapest is served by Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD). Transfers to the city centre are easily done using the dedicated public bus and metro connection, or taxis, which take you directly to the central train stations like Keleti. The city has an excellent public transport system, including the Metro, trams (the Line 2 tram along the Danube is highly scenic), and buses, making travel between Buda and Pest very straightforward.

Find the best hotel deals in Budapest

Hotel prices in Budapest are at their highest during the peak summer tourist season, from June to August, and during the very popular Christmas Market period in December. The city is also a major host for large music festivals and sporting events, which can cause short-term price spikes.

The best value is found during the quiet months of January and February, when you can enjoy the thermal baths with fewer crowds and lower rates. The shoulder seasons of March to May and September to November offer a better compromise. A unique tip for Budapest is to look for hotels in the surrounding districts of the inner city, such as the vibrant Jewish Quarter in District VII, or just beyond the main boulevards. These areas offer fantastic, authentic dining and nightlife experiences while often providing a noticeable reduction in the nightly hotel price compared to the absolute riverfront or main Basilica area.
