About Germania

INFORMATION UPDATE: On 5 February 2019, Germania shut down their operations, and are no longer offering Germania flights. The information below refers to the period Germania was still operating.

The German airline Germania was founded in 1978 and has its headquarters in Berlin, plus its operating base at Berlin Schönefeld Airport. It has one subsidiary airline, Germania Flug, which is headquartered in Greater Zurich. It also has a number of focus cities and airports including Hamburg Airport, Bremen Airport, London Gatwick Airport and Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. Germania displays an IATA code that was previously utilised by Yanda Airlines.

It has a fleet of 22 aircraft that travel to more than 40 destinations predominantly in Europe but also to the Middle East and North Africa. German destinations the airline flies to include Kassel Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Dresden Airport and Munich Airport, while Spanish destinations encompass the cities of Lanzarote, Malaga, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Germania also operates flights to the Marrakesh Menara Airport in Morocco, Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport in Iran and Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport in Israel.

Online check-in

Currently it is not possible to use online check-in services for most Germania flights. For some flights however, it is possible for passengers to check in the evening before by visiting the departure airport and dropping off their luggage. Check-in at the airport on the day of departure is generally open from 2 hours until 45 minutes prior to the departure of the flight. In order to check in, passengers must bring their booking confirmation and photo identification as well as any other documents required for specific international flights. Once the check-in process has been completed, passengers will receive their boarding pass.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers travelling on Germania flights can take 1 piece of hand baggage with them on board, no matter what type of ticket they have purchased. The luggage is not allowed to be bigger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm or heavier than 6 kg. Passengers on flights to and from Iran are allowed to take up to 8 kg. Passengers are also able to take a personal item such as a camera, laptop or handbag with them on board. Liquids in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 ml are permitted to be carried on board, however all liquid containers must be transported in a re-sealable plastic bag.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of checked luggage a passenger is allowed to take with them on a Germania flight is dependent on the flight route they are travelling. The general baggage allowance stipulates a maximum weight of 20 kg for children and adults whilst infants are allowed a maximum of 10 kg. For passengers who have a return flight 28 days or later than their outward flight, a maximum of 30 kg is allowed. There is no limit to the amount of pieces allowed as long as the weight limitations are not exceeded. Luggage that exceeds the size and weight allowance will be transported at an additional charge.
