SmartWings is a low-cost Czech air carrier that was founded in 2004 by another Czech airline, Travel Service, in order to enter the budget leisure sector. Travel service is also currently the countries largest airline. SmartWings has its headquarters located in and operates from a base at Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague, the Czech Republic's capital city. Nearly 20 aircraft fly under the airline's brand, all of which are either Boeing 737s or Airbus A320s.

SmartWings flies to over 40 different destinations in Europe, Asia and Africa. Popular routes operated by the airline include flights to London Gatwick Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and Dubai International Airport. Many of its flight paths, such as those to Barcelona, Faro and Naples, are seasonal and only operate during the summer holiday period. It also has a codeshare agreement with Czech Airlines on 9 routes. It is not a member of an airline alliance.

Passengers can check in online starting from 30 hours before a SmartWings flights departure time. This service then closes 1 hour prior to takeoff. When they've completed check-in online, passengers will be sent an email confirming that they have checked in. This email will contain their boarding card, which they can then print out. On flights departing airports other than Prague, passengers cannot complete their SmartWings check-in online and will have to do so at the airport instead. Airport check-in desks open 2 hours before a flight and close again 40 minutes prior to departure. Groups larger than 9 people and children younger than 2 also cannot check in online.

SmartWings baggage allowance for hand luggage is relatively small when compared with many other airlines. Each passenger may bring 1 item of hand luggage weighing up to 5 kg that's no larger than 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Personal items such as handbags, laptops, walking sticks and reading material are also permitted onboard. If passengers exceed this 5 kg limit or the 56 x 45 x 25 cm size restriction, the airline will refuse to carry the hand luggage item in the cabin and instead, it will have to be checked into the hold. There may be an additional cost for this.

Each passenger in Economy class is allowed 1 piece of checked luggage with a weight of up to 15 kg as their SmartWings baggage allowance, while passengers in business class are permitted to bring luggage weighing up to 20 kg. If their luggage weighs more than the specified allowance, passengers will have to pay an extra cost to have it carried on the flight. There is a set fee for every kilogram that a bag weighs in excess of the 15 kg allowance. If a luggage item weighs more than 32 kg, the airline will refuse to carry it. Sports equipment can also be checked in for a flight, however there is a cost per item for this and it should be arranged in advance by contacting the airline.
