Bristol is an important port and city in south west England, and is known for its maritime history. The city is served by Bristol Airport, which is located 13 kilometres from the city centre. The airport opened in 1957 and has been in operation ever since. There was an RAF airfield on its site long before the airport was built.
Flights from Bristol to London take off from Bristol Airport, which is located in the Lulsgate Bottom area of North Somerset. This airport has just one terminal and large aircrafts do not land here; this is one of the reasons why long distance flights do not often take off from here.
