BMI Regional

About BMI Regional

BMI Regional was founded in 1987 and currently has its headquarters located at East Midlands Airport. The airline was previously a British Midland International subsidiary that was purchased by the International Airlines Group from Lufthansa. It was sold in 2012 and since then has operated independently as an airline. Together with Loganair, it is now part of the Airline Investments Limited group and operates from several bases in Europe, including Aberdeen, Karlstad and Munich.

BMI Regional has a fleet of 18 aircraft that fly to over 25 destinations domestically and within Europe. The company also has codeshare agreements with Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines. A BMI flight can be booked to a number of German destinations such as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, while English destinations including Bristol, Newcastle, Southampton and Norwich plus the French cities of Paris and Toulouse are also popular routes.

Online check-in

It is possible to check in online for BMI flights from 48 hours until 4 hours prior to the departure of the flight. In order to check in online, passengers must enter their last name as well as their booking reference. Once check-in has been completed, passengers will receive their boarding pass which they can then either print out or save onto a mobile device.

Passengers flying with checked baggage must ensure they check in their luggage no later than 30 minutes prior to a flights scheduled take-off time. Passengers who have already checked in online and who are only flying with hand luggage can go directly through to security with their boarding pass.

Hand luggage allowance

The amount of hand luggage a passenger can take on a BMI flight depends on the type of ticket they have purchased. Executive Fare ticket holders are allowed to take 2 pieces of hand luggage with them weighing no more than 12 kg in addition to a personal item such as a laptop or camera. For all other ticket holders, the same rules apply except that they're only allowed to take 1 piece of hand baggage instead of 2.

The dimensions of any hand baggage must not exceed the 55 x 40 x 23 cm limit. These measurements include the handle, wheels and any other protrusions. Liquids can also be taken on board as long as each container does not exceed 100 ml.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of hold baggage a passenger is allowed to take with on a BMI flight depends on the type of ticket they've purchased. For those who have purchased a ClassicPlus, Classic or Sale ticket, only 1 piece of hold luggage is allowed as long as it does not weigh more than 20 kg total.

Passengers flying with an Executive ticket are allowed to take 2 pieces of hold luggage, as long as each piece of baggage weights no more than 20 kg. Infants are also allowed to take 1 piece of hold luggage weighing no more than 10 kg. Sporting equipment can be taken on board and can be paid for in advance or directly at the airport.

Value rating is on experience . I feel that the price i paid was a little too much; if they were more reasonable i would travel more times during the year than i do now.
