About Iberia Express

Iberia Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of Iberia, the Spanish flag carrier. It was set up on 2011 and aims to offer low-cost short and medium-haul flights. Its inaugural flight was in 2012 and it shares the Madrid operating base of its parent company. The airline's aim is to take over services that its parent company was losing money on and to operate them with lower costs. It has a fleet of 20 aircraft, which are split between Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 planes all based at Madrid Barajas Airport.

Iberia Express runs services to more than 20 European destinations. Some of the most popular of these include major cities such as London (both Gatwick and Heathrow Airports), Amsterdam and Berlin, as well as holiday hotspots like Mykonos, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Through its parent, it is affiliated with the oneworld alliance. It also has codeshare arrangements in place with Royal Air Maroc, LAN Airlines, Siberia Airlines, Air Berlin, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Finnair , American Airlines and Avianca.

Online check-in

Express fare passengers can check in online for their Iberia Express flights starting from 24 hours before departure. Those with a Classic, Flex or Business fare can check in online immediately after making their booking. This is done using their departure airport, last name and booking reference number. The latest any passenger regardless of fare type can check in online is 1 hour before their flight is due to depart. Online check-in also includes seat selection. After checking in, passengers can print their boarding card. Anyone who has asked for a special service from the airline cannot check in online. Other check-in options include using the check-in counters or self-service kiosks at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

Hand luggage on an Iberia Express flight is limited to 1 item per person with a maximum weight of 10 kg and a limit of 56 x 45 x 25 cm in dimension. This maximum size includes wheels and handles and is designed to ensure that hand luggage will fit in the storage available on the aircraft. Due to space constraints on busier flights, some passengers may be asked to check their hand luggage into the plane's hold. They will not be charged for this. If their hand luggage is too big or too heavy, it will also need to be checked into the hold, but in this case the passengers will be charged.

Checked baggage allowance

The standard size for checked luggage on an Iberia Express flight is a combined width, length and height of up to 158cm and a maximum weight of 23 kg. Express fares do not include any checked luggage allowance, while Classic and Flex fares include 1 piece of checked luggage and Business fares, 2 pieces of checked luggage. Infants have the same allowance as an adult passenger in addition to being able to bring a foldable stroller on board. Passengers will be charged extra if they check in any item of luggage weighing more than 23 kg, up to a maximum of 32 kg. Items heavier than 32 kg will not be accepted for safety reasons.
