XL Airways France is based at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and was founded in 1995. Previously called Star Airlines, it commenced using its current name in 2006. As well as Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, the airline also operates flights from Marseilles, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon and Toulouse. It owns a fleet of 7 aircraft that include a mixture of Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 planes.

XL Airways France focuses on long-haul flights to airports across the United States, Caribbean, Africa and the Middle East, although it does also operate flights within Europe. Its routes serve more than 30 different destinations. Among its most popular operations are XL Airways flights to Cancun International Airport in Mexico, Miami International Airport in the United States, Varadero Juan Gualberto Gomez Airport in Cuba and Saint Denis Roland Garros Airport in Reunion. In addition to its scheduled flights, the airline also operates charter flights on behalf of various European tour operators.

Online check-in

Passengers do not have the option to check in online for an XL Airways flight and instead, they must check in at the one of the airline's airport check-in counters. To do so they will need their passport or an official identification document. On a long-haul flight, passengers can check in from 3 hours before takeoff up until 1 hour before departure. On a medium-haul flight, check-in opens 2 hours before the plane is scheduled to depart and closes again 30 minutes before departure. Passengers travelling in Premium Galaxy class are able to check in at a priority counter and avoid queuing with other passengers.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers on an XL Airways flight have a hand luggage allowance of 1 main item and 1 personal item. In Economy class, that main item is limited to a maximum weight of 5 kg, while in Premium Galaxy class its maximum weight is 10 kg. All items of hand luggage regardless of class are limited to dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm. Acceptable personal items include things like a laptop bag, handbag or camera bag. Infants are entitled to 1 item of hand luggage weighing up to 5 kg. Hand luggage that is deemed to be in excess of these allowances will be subject to additional fees.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage allowances with XL Airways can vary according to the route a passenger is flying on. The airline's standard allowance for Economy class passengers is 1 item that must weigh no more than 20 kg. The maximum combined width, height and length of this item must be less than 158 cm. Passengers in Galaxy Premium class are entitled to check in 2 item of luggage, each of which may weigh up to 20 kg. These items are also limited maximum combined dimensions of 158 cm. Children younger than 2 years old are entitled to check in 1 item weighing up to 10 kg. Excess baggage fees will apply to any passengers who bring luggage that is heavier, larger or composed of more items than their ticketed allowance.
