About Turkmenistan Airlines

Turkmenistan Airlines is owned by the Turkmenistan government and is the country's flag carrier airline. It is based in the capital city of Ashgabat and operates out of Ashgabat International Airport. It also has additional operating centres at Turkmenabat Airport and at Turkmenbashi Airport. The company owns a fleet of more than 30 planes, composed of a mixture of Boeing, Bombardier, British Aerospace and Illyushin aircraft. Of those, several planes are reserved for VIP flights for the Turkmenistan government while the Ilyushins are used for cargo flights.

The airline offers both domestic and international services, flying to a total of more than 20 destinations. These destinations are spread across the Middle East, Central, South, East and Southeast Asia, and Europe. Some of its most popular routes include flights to London, Moscow, Istanbul and Beijing. It has codeshare agreements with Belavia and S7 Airlines, but it is not part of any airline alliance.

Online check-in

There is currently no online check-in service available for Turkmenistan Airlines flights. Instead, all passengers should check in at the airport, starting from around 3 hours before their flight is scheduled to take-off. In order to check in and receive a boarding pass, they should head to one of the airline's check-in counters at their departure airport.

Passengers may also need to show a valid ID document such as a passport and confirmation of their booking plus visa documents specific to their destination. Once they have checked in and received their boarding card, passengers can then proceed through security to their departure gate.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers on a Turkmenistan Airlines flight, regardless of the cabin class they are travelling in, receive the same hand luggage allowance. That is, each passenger may bring 1 item of hand luggage on board their flight. In order to be accepted onto the flight, hand luggage must weigh less than 5 kg and be no larger than 40 x 50 x 20 cm. Certain items can also be taken into the aircraft's cabin in addition to a passenger's main hand luggage allowance at a maximum of 1 item per person. This item may be a wheelchair for those who require it, a briefcase, coat, umbrella, walking stick, baby food or children's car seat.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage allowance depends on both the route of a Turkmenistan Airlines flight and the fare class booked by the passenger. On domestic flights, the airline allows both Economy and Business class passengers to check in 15 kg of luggage. On the airline's London, Birmingham, Beijing, Almaty, Bangkok, Delhi, Minsk and Amritsar routes, Economy class passengers can check in up to 15 kg of luggage while Business class passengers can check in up to 25 kg.

On the airline's Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Ankara routes, Economy class passengers can check in up to 30 kg of luggage and Business class passengers, 40 kg. On the airline's Istanbul route, Economy class passengers can check in up to 40 kg of luggage, Business class passengers are entitled to carry up to 50 kg. On the airline's Dubai route, Economy class passengers can check in up to 55 kg of luggage and Business class passengers, up to 65 kg.
