About Belavia

Belavia is owned by the Belarusian government and is the national airline of Belarus. The flag carrier's headquarters are in Belarus' capital, Minsk, at the Minsk National Airport. From there the state-owned Belavia Airlines fleet serves more than 50 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Out of the wide range of routes on offer, flights to Milan, Stockholm and Berlin are some of the airline's popular destinations, as is Belavia's London to Minsk route.

Nearly 30 planes that include a mixture of Boeing, Embraer, CRJ, Tupolev and Bombardier models make up the the airline's fleet. The Boeing 737 is the most common aircraft owned by the company. Belavia merged with its fellow Belarusian airline, MinskAvia, in 1998 and acquired a number of new aircraft in the process. The airline has not joined an alliance but does have various codeshare agreements, including ones with Air France, Lot Polish Airlines, Etihad Airways and KLM.

Online check-in

Belavia flights offer the option of online check-in when flying from selected airports. Where available, online check-in opens 22 hours prior to a flight's scheduled take-off and closes 3 hours before. Passengers can choose their seat and meal options when checking in online. In order to check-in online, passengers will need their travel documents and booking reference number on hand. Online check-in is not available for passengers requiring special assistance and groups of 9 or more passengers. If not checking in online, passengers are able to check in at the airport, starting from 2 hours before their flight until 40 minutes before.

Hand luggage allowance

On Belavia flights, Economy class passengers have a hand luggage allowance of 1 item. This item should not exceed the maximum weight of 8 kg or the maximum dimensions of 50 x 40 x 20 cm. Business class passengers are also entitled to one item of hand luggage. This is subject to the same restrictions on size as Economy class but may weigh as much as 12 kg. In addition to this allowance passenger may bring other small items, including the following: Reading material, items for baby care, a baby carriage, crutches, wheelchair or other mobility aid, camera bag, laptop bag, umbrella, coat or blanket and handbag.

Checked baggage allowance

Belavia Airlines reviews its checked baggage allowances based on the passenger's fare type. Economy passengers have an allowance of up to 20 kg, while Premium Economy and Business class passengers have an allowance of up to 30 kg. Infants travelling without their own seat, i.e. on an adult's lap, have an allowance of up to 10 kg in addition to a stroller or a car seat. For all fare types the maximum size for an item of checked luggage is 50 x 50 x 100 cm. Any items of luggage that fails to comply with these allowances will be subject to an extra charge. Sporting equipment will be carried free of charge as long as it does not cause a passenger to exceed their checked baggage allowance.
