About Bangkok Airways

Bangkok Airways was founded in 1968 and originally known as Sahakol Air. In 1986, it switched from charter to scheduled flights in response to increasing tourism in the area. It is a Thai regional carrier, based at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. It was also Thailand's first privately owned airline. Bangkok Airways operates routes exclusively within Asia and has secondary hubs at Phuket International Airport and Chiang Mai International Airport. Its primary focus airports are Krabi Airport and Ko Samui Airport, which the airline built. It has a fleet of over 30 Airbus and ATR aircraft.

Bangkok Airways flights are available to 30 Asian destinations, including many popular holiday spots such as Xi'an in China, Siem Reap in Cambodia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Pattaya in Thailand, Da Nang in Vietnam and Hong Kong in China. Aeroflot, Finnair, SilkAir, Korean Air and 16 other airlines have codeshare agreements with the airline. It is not a member of any of the major airline alliances. Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for a Bangkok Airways flight. This service becomes available 24 hours before a flight is scheduled to takeoff and closes again 1 hour before a flight. Online check-in is not available to minors travelling alone, groups of more than 9 passengers, or passengers who need special assistance. Passengers who check in online for an international flight will still need to go to a check-in counter at the airport to have their documents checked to receive their boarding card. It is also possible to check in at the airport. Airport check-in counters will close 40 minutes prior to the departure of a domestic flight and 50 minutes prior to the departure of an international flight.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers are entitled to 1 piece of hand luggage on Bangkok Airways flights. The maximum permitted weight for this piece of hand luggage is 5 kg, but the maximum size that is permitted is variable depending on the manufacturer and model of the airplane that is being used for the flight. If the plane is an ATR 72, the maximum hand luggage dimensions are 44 x 28 x 23 cm. If the plane is an Airbus 319 or an Airbus 320, the maximum hand luggage dimension are 56 x 36 x 23 cm. Infants do not have any hand luggage allowance.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers' checked luggage is determined by the cabin class in which they will be flying. It is also the same for both domestic and international Bangkok Airways flights. All passengers in Economy class have a checked luggage allowance of up to 20 kg and all passengers in Business class have a checked luggage allowance of up to 30 kg. Regardless of which class they are travelling in, infants have a checked luggage allowance of up to 10 kg. Sporting equipment can be carried as part of a passenger's checked luggage allowance. If their allowance is exceeded, passengers will be charged to carry the additional weight.

This was 4 star travel for 1 star price. New Airbus 350 with plenty of leg room. Good service. Good food--they even gave my wife food from business class because she was unable to eat what was on offer. Good entertainment on reasonably sized screen. In fact there was nothing to fault. The only issue was the distance we had to walk from the arrival gate to te exit.
