Aeroflot is the biggest airline in Russia and has both domestic and international routes on offer. It was founded in 1923, which makes it one of the world's oldest airlines. Its name simply means air fleet in Russian. During the Soviet era, the company was a government-owned company, but it is now semi-privatized. Although it is not official, Aeroflot can be considered Russia's national airline. The company calls Moscow home with its main headquarters located at Moscow Sheremtyevo International Airport.

Aeroflot's current fleet contains a mix of Sukhoi, Airbus and Boeing planes and numbers nearly 170 aircraft. This large fleet makes sense given that it serves nearly 130 destinations on various continents. Of those, the flights from Moscow to London form one of its top routes, along with the ones to Beijing, Athens and Hanoi. The company operates codeshare flights with 27 different partner airlines, some of which include Air France, Czech Airlines and China Southern Airlines. The airline has been a SkyTeam alliance member since early 2006.

Online check-in

Passengers have the option of online check-in to reduce the amount of time that they need to spend at the airport. Passengers can first check in online 24 hours before their flight. This service closes 45 minutes prior to the flight's scheduled departure. Aeroflot online check-in also allows passengers to choose a seat for their flight. Another option is mobile check-in, either by using a mobile browser or Aeroflot's app. Similar to checking in online, mobile check-in is available from 24 hours ahead of departure until 45 minutes prior to take-off. Passengers who are unable to check in online or on a mobile, or simply prefer not to, can check in at the airport instead.

Hand luggage allowance

Aeroflot offers a hand luggage allowance of 1 main item and 1 personal item. Examples of a personal item are a laptop bag or a camera bag. Personal items should be able to fit beneath an airplane seat. The main hand luggage item should be smaller than 55 x 40 x 20 cm. There are different weight limits for different ticket types, for example Comfort and Economy ticket holders are entitled to up to 10 kg of hand luggage, while Business class passengers may bring up to 15 kg. Hand luggage items that are larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm and weigh more than 10 kg (or 15 kg in the case of Business class passengers) will be required to be checked in instead of taken into the plane's cabin with the passengers. Passengers will be charged a fee for this.

Checked baggage allowance

Aeroflot reviews its checked luggage policy on a class-by-class basis. Economy tickets entitle passengers to 1 checked bag, which must be lighter than 23 kg. Premium Economy and Comfort class tickets entitle passengers to 2 checked bags, each of which should weigh no more than 23 kg. Finally, Business class tickets entitle passengers to 2 checked bags, each of which should way no more than 32 kg. The maximum dimensions of checked luggage is the same for all ticket classes. Checked baggage must have a combined width, height and length of less than 158 cm. This varies slightly for children younger than 2 that intend to spend the flight sitting on an adult's lap. They are allowed 1 checked bag weighing up to 10 kg and with a combined height, width and length of 115 cm.
