About Air Tahiti

Founded in 1987, Air Tahiti is a French Polynesian airline principally based at Faa'a International Airport in Tahiti. Operating a network of 48 destinations, the airline connects 46 French Polynesian islands, carrying over 11 million passengers per year. Featuring a fleet of 16 ATR, Beechcraft King Air and Twin Otter aircraft, Air Tahiti services a total area as large as Europe, with flights as short as 15 km taking 7 minutes, and as long as 1,600 km taking 3 hours and 30 minutes non-stop.

Although a private company, Air Tahiti provides an important public service role by connecting 90% of the population of French Polynesia. Flights operated by the airline often involve an initial flight on an ATR aircraft, then a connecting flight in a Beechcraft or Twin Otter. This provides travellers with connections to islands that don't necessarily have the means to accommodate larger aircrafts such as ATRs.

Online check-in

Online check-in is available on most Air Tahiti flights and can be accessed between 16 hours and 60 minutes prior to the flight's scheduled departure time. Passengers flying to the following islands cannot check in online: Ahe, Arutua, Gambier, Makemo, Mataiva, Takapoto, Takaroa, Tureia, Ua Huka or Ua Pou.

After checking in online, passengers are able to print out their boarding passes to present at the airport terminal before boarding their Air Tahiti flight. Passengers traveling with infants younger than 2 years, or passengers who require special mobility assistance are unable to check in online and must check in directly at the airport terminal.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers flying on an Air Tahiti flight can carry 1 item of hand luggage on board the aircraft. This item must be no larger than 45 x 35 x 20 cm in size and weigh no more than 5 kg. These restrictions apply to all flights and destinations operated by the airline.

Items of hand luggage that exceed the permitted size or weight allowance on an Air Tahiti flight will be subject to an additional fee and may even be placed in the aircraft's cargo area if they do not fit in the overhead lockers or beneath the seats.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers on an Air Tahiti flight are able to check in 3 items of baggage for free. The combined weight of all items of baggage must not exceed 23 kg, while the total dimension of single items cannot be larger than 150 cm. Infants younger than 2 years of age have no checked baggage allowance.

Items larger or weighing in excess of the restrictions will be subject to additional check-in fees, or may not be allowed onto the aircraft at all. Special allowances on an Air Tahiti flight can be made for items of sporting equipment or musical instruments, but the airline staff must be notified about such items before check-in.
