KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the primary airline in the Netherlands and is the oldest in the world still in existence using its original name. Founded in 1919, KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, which is Dutch for Royal Dutch Airlines, and it has its hub at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. The fleet consists of 119 aircraft and the company flies to 145 different destinations worldwide.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is part of the SkyTeam Alliance, which consists of 20 members, including China Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flights have codeshare agreements with more than 45 airlines, including Garuda Indonesia and Oman Air, and it is also joint owned with Air France by the Air France-KLM Group, a holding company based at Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris. Their frequent flyer program is called Flying Blue and is shared with Air France and Garuda Indonesia, among others.
If you want to avoid the queues at the airport, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines check-in system is the answer. You will need your ticket code or your booking code and flight number to check in online, and you can use the system from 30 hours before your plane is due to leave, unless you are travelling to or from the United States. In that case, check-in will only be open 24 hours before departure, but in either situation, you can check in online up until an hour before the scheduled take-off time.
Apart from Economy Light tickets, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines baggage policy includes a free allowance of one bag of up to 23 kg for European and transatlantic flights. The maximum dimensions cannot exceed 158 cm when adding height, width and length together. If you have a Light ticket, extra hold baggage can be purchased for a fee, if necessary. Business Class passengers and members of the Flying Blue or SkyTeam Alliance frequent flyer program can bring one extra bag of the same maximum dimensions and weight.
Please be aware that wrapping your baggage in cling film or having any that are ball-shaped causes trouble for the baggage handling system, and cannot be accepted. You can use a commercial wrapping company but hand-wrapped suitcases will be refused. Any child with a purchased seat will be allowed exactly the same baggage allowance as an adult, but those sitting on an adult’s lap are more restricted. In these cases, one bag of a maximum weight of 10 kg only is allowed.
If your flight involves two or more interconnecting flights within a 24 hour period, your checked-in bags will be automatically sent to your final destination. There is no need for you to pick them up during the transfer; it will all be carried out for you. You can check the final destination of your cases on the luggage tag you were supplied with when you checked your baggage in.
With an Economy ticket, the luggage you are allowed to take in the cabin with you is restricted to one bag with the maximum dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm. One small, additional bag is also allowed if its dimensions are less than 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm, and this is usually something such as a handbag, laptop bag or briefcase. These bags together cannot exceed a weight of 12 kg and once on the plane, the larger bag must be placed in the overhead lockers and the smaller bag under the seat in front of you.
The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines hand luggage allowance is slightly different for Business Class passengers and although the dimensions remain the same, two of the larger bags are allowed along with one smaller handbag or briefcase-sized item. The total weight for all three of these bags must not exceed 18 kg.
If there is only a limited amount of space in the overhead bins and you are one of the later passengers to board, you may be asked to place your larger bags into the hold. This will not be subject to a fee. Adults travelling with infants on their lap are allowed an extra carry-on bag containing baby care items, but it must be less than 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm.
Any liquids contained in your cabin bags must be in containers of a maximum of 100ml and displayed in a re-sealable, plastic, see-through bag. Please be aware that gels, creams and deodorants are also classed as liquids in these circumstances, but they are allowed in larger containers if they are in your checked-in baggage.
There are over a hundred KLM Royal Dutch Airlines routes around the world, and here are some of the more popular destinations:
As brilliant as ever.
There was a delay of KL0964 so I couldn't get in time KL1581.KLM and air France offered me the opportunity to go to Athens via Paris. It was great.
I could have booked the flight more cheaply as I was looking earlier but I wanted to know about baggage sizes for cabin luggage and this was not clear so I wasted a few days whilst i tried to find out. of course, the prices had gone up.

Very attentive staff and comfortable seating.
Was a pity I could not find a direct outbound flight manchester to Krakow for the time I wanted. Connecting flights at Amsterdam was a bit stressful with a long walk between arriving and getting to the outbound flight gate.
KLM provided a friendly and quality service which made the long journey more comfortable
Friendly courteous staff. Clean plane.
