Established in 2006, Hong Kong Airlines is a regional carrier that serves destinations in and around China, and is rated as a 4 star airline by Skytrax. The airline started as a helicopter operator before commencing airplane flights. Its inaugural flight took place between Hong Kong and Beijing. It is based out of Hong Kong International Airport where is houses a fleet of 30 Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft. It is a sister airline to Hainan Airlines, Lucky Air, Grand China Air, Grand China Express and Grand China Air.
Hong Kong Airlines provides flights to destinations in Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Thailand, China, Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey and Japan. This service is available from 48 hours until 2 hours before a flight is scheduled to take-off.
Passengers are able to use their departure airport, name and ticket number to check in online. Children travelling alone, passengers needing assistance, and passengers travelling on a group booking cannot check in online. Passengers can also check in with the airline at the airport using their check-in counters.
Hand luggage allowance
Economy class passengers on Hong Kong Airlines flights are entitled to carry 1 item of hand luggage into the airplane's cabin while Business class passengers are permitted to carry 2. Each item of hand luggage is limited to 7 kg in weight and 56 x 36 x 23 cm in dimensions. Any items that are deemed too large or heavy will need to be carried as checked baggage. Depending on the passenger's checked baggage allowance, there may be a charge for this. On top of this hand luggage allowance, passengers can also take on board a handbag, binoculars, umbrella, crutches, baby food or a laptop.
Checked baggage allowance
Checked baggage allowance depends on where a Hong Kong Airlines flight is travelling. For all destinations besides the Southwest Pacific and Saipan, Economy passengers can check in up to 20 kg of luggage. Business class passengers can also check in up to 30 kg of luggage on this routes. On those flights to the Southwest Pacific and Saipan, Economy passengers can check in up to 20 kg of luggage while Business class passengers are entitled to bring up to 40 kg.
On all routes, infants who are travelling on an adult's lap are entitled to check in 10 kg of luggage. All items of checked luggage are subject to a maximum size of 158 cm when height, width and length are added together. Charges are applicable to luggage exceeding these limits.
