About China Eastern Airlines

China Eastern Airlines was founded in 1988 and is one of the major airlines in China. Its main hubs are located in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport. It has a fleet of over 400 aircraft that travel to more than 200 destinations internationally and domestically. China Eastern Airlines as well as its subsidiary, Shanghai Airlines, are members of the StarTeam alliance. China Cargo Airlines and China United Airlines are also subsidiaries. The airline has codeshare agreements with Japan Airlines, Qantas, Virgin America and WestJet.

The majority of China Eastern Airlines flights are to Chinese destinations such as Beijing, Anhui and Shanghai. Online check-in

Passengers can check in online within 24 hours prior to the departure of their flight. Online check-in is available for adults as well as children who are accompanied by an adult. Minors who are unaccompanied by an adult as well as wheelchair users, disabled or pregnant travellers should check in at one of the check-in counters upon arrival at the airport.

After checking in online, passengers will have access to their electronic ticket. This electronic ticket can be printed off and used as the boarding pass. Passengers who are unable to print off their boarding pass at home can print it off at one of the China Eastern Airlines check-in kiosks or counters at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

The amount of checked luggage allowed for First Class passengers as well as China Eastern Airlines Business Class and Economy Class passengers is the same. The weight of the hand luggage must not exceed 10 kg and the dimensions must not be greater than 56 x 45 x 25cm. The total of the 3 lengths must not be greater than 115 cm. Items that exceed these limitations may be placed in the hold.

The China Eastern Airlines baggage allowance does not allow for dangerous items to be transported. Such items include flammable, explosive or toxic articles, restrained knives or any other items that may jeopardise the safety of the flight.

Checked baggage allowance

The China Eastern Airlines baggage allowance depends on the type of ticket the passenger has purchased and which route they are travelling. For routes in North America, China Eastern Airlines Business Class and First Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of baggage that weigh up to 32 kg each. For Economy travellers, 2 pieces of baggage that weight up to 23 kg each is allowed. The sum of the sides of each item should not exceed 158 cm.

First Class passengers travelling the Dubai, Europe, Australia and Japan routes are allowed an additional piece of baggage. Charges will be incurred for baggage that exceeds the allowed size and weight limits.
