About Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is a budget airline that was founded in 1980. It has its main operating bases located at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Fort Lauerdale-Holywood International Airport. The airline has a fleet of over 85 aircraft that fly to more than 55 destinations around the world, from domestic flights within the USA to tourist hotspots in Latin American, South America, Mexico and the Caribbean. It also has a number of focus cities within the US that includes Las Vegas, Chicago and Houston.

Spirit Airlines mainly flies to American destinations within the United States such as to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona, San Diego International Airport in California and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Ohio. It also flies to airports in several other States including New York, New Jersey, Texas and Washington. Colombian destinations such as Medellin, Bogotá and Cartagena are also serviced by Spirit Airlines as well as popular Central American destinations such as Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama.

Online check-in

Online check-in is available for all Spirit Airlines flights from 24 hours up until 1 hour prior to the flights specified departure time. Passengers must enter their surname as well as their confirmation code in order to check in online. During this process, it will be possible for passengers to select the baggage they would like to take with them as well as which seat they would like to sit in during the flight. Once the check-in process has been completed, passengers can either print off their boarding pass straight away or have it sent to their email address to be printed off at a later date. By checking in online, passengers will have the opportunity to save both time and money at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers travelling on Spirit Airlines flights are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage with them on board, however, if the passenger has purchased a Bare Fare ticket they will not be able to take luggage with them free of charge. Passengers can also take personal items such as a handbag or camera as long as it is not larger than 40 x 35 x 30 cm, whilst the hand luggage may not exceed 56 x 46 x 25 cm. Liquids can be taken on board but the containers are not allowed to be able to hold more than 100 ml.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers are allowed to take checked luggage on all Spirit Airlines flights. The maximum size of the checked baggage should not exceed 158 cm when all dimensions have been added together, and the maximum weight is 18.1 kg. Any luggage that exceeds these size and weight limitations will incur an extra charge. Luggage weighing more than 45 kg and larger than 203 cm when all dimensions have been added together, will also not be accepted on the aircraft. In order to avoid having to pay extra costs at the airport on the date of departure, it is advised to choose the amount of baggage you would like to take with you when purchasing the ticket.
