Pakistan International Airlines was founded in 1946 as Orient Airways, and then changed to its current name in 1955. Its headquarters are located at Jinnah International Airport in the Pakistani city of Karachi. The airline is the largest in Pakistan and the country's national flag carrier. The airline additionally operates from its other main hubs at Allama Iqbal International Airport and Islamabad International Airport. It has codeshare agreements with Turkish Airlines, Air France, China Southern Airlines, Thai Airways
and Etihad Airways.
Pakistan International Airlines currently has a fleet of 38 aircraft that fly to over 65 destinations around the world. The majority of flights service cities in Pakistan such as to Peshawar, Lahore, Gwadar and Turbat. The airline also flies to the European destinations of Paris in France, Copenhagen in Denmark and Oslo in Norway, as well as to Manchester and London in the United Kingdom. The Saudi Arabian destinations that Pakistan International Airlines flies to are Jeddah, Medina and Riyadh.
Online check-in
Online check-in is possible on Pakistan International Airlines flights from 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. In order to check in, passengers are required to enter their personal details. Once the check-in process has been completed, passengers are then able to print off their boarding pass or have it emailed to them to be printed off at a later date. By checking in online, passengers who do not have any luggage to book into the hold are able to save time by not having to wait in long queues at the airport on the day of departure.
Hand luggage allowance
When travelling on Pakistan International Airlines flights, all passengers are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage free of charge as long as it does not weigh more than 7 kg and is no larger than 55 x 38 x 22 cm. Business Class passengers are allowed an additional small personal item such as a briefcase, laptop or handbag as long as it does not weigh more than 5 kg. Liquids are permitted to be taken on board as long as none of the individual containers can hold more than 100 ml. All of the containers must be placed into a re-sealable see-through plastic bag.
Checked baggage allowance
The amount of checked baggage a passenger is allowed to take with them on their Pakistan International Airlines flight is dependent on what type of ticket they have purchased. Economy Class ticket holders are allowed 1 piece of baggage weighing up to 20 kg whilst Economy Plus ticket holders can take up to 25 kg. Business Plus ticket holders can take 2 pieces of luggage as long as the total combined weight does not exceed 30 kg. Luggage that exceeds the weight limitations will incur a fee. Passengers are advised to label each piece of luggage with their name and address.
