About Air Austral

Founded in 1975, the French airline Air Austral is headquartered in Sainte-Marie, Réunion at Roland Garros Airport, which is also the location of its main hub. It is part of the Vanilla Alliance along with several other airlines including Air Madagascar, Air Seychelles and Air Mauritius. The airline currently has a fleet of 8 aircraft that fly to 14 destinations within France and various locations in the Indian Ocean.

Air Austral operates flights to the Madagascan destinations of Nosy Be, Toamasina and Antananarivo as well as the city of Johannesburg in South Africa, Moroni in Comoros, Mahébourg in Mauritius and Mahé in the Seychelles. Flights to Bangkok in Thailand and Chennai in India are also popular, along with seasonal flights to Plaine Corail in Rodrigues. The airline also operates a service to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in France as well as the regions of Saint Pierre and Saint Denis in Réunion.

Online check-in

Passengers travelling on an Air Austral flight can check in online from 24 hours prior to the departure of their flight. In order to check in online, passengers must enter their passport details and information from their electronic ticket. Passengers are also able to select their seats and their food preferences online.

Once the online check-in process has been completed, passengers can print off their boarding pass of have it emailed to them to print off at a later date. By checking in online, passengers can save time waiting in long queues at the airport on the date of departure.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers travelling on Air Austral flights are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage as well as a personal item such as a handbag or laptop with them on board. The hand luggage may not exceed 55 x 45 x 20 cm and is not allowed to be heavier than 10 kg when combined with the weight of the personal item.

Liquids in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 ml are permitted to be brought on board. All liquid containers must fit into a see-through re-sealable plastic bag and the total amount of liquid may not exceed 1 litre.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of pieces of hold luggage a passenger is allowed to take with them on Air Austral flights does not matter as long as the maximum weight allowance is not exceeded. Passengers travelling on a long-haul flight can take up to 25 kg with them if they have a Loisirs ticket, whilst passengers with a Confort ticket can take up to 35 kg. Club-Austral passengers can take up to 40 kg with them.

The size of the luggage may not be larger than 300 cm when all sides have been added together. Passengers are advised to label each piece of luggage with their name and address.
