About Air Mauritius
Air Mauritius was founded in 1967 and began operating flights in 1972. Its headquarters are located in Port Louis, Mauritius. Initially Air Mauritius was set up as a joint venture between Air France the British Overseas Airways Corporation, plus the government of Mauritius. It is currently still partly owned by the government of Mauritius, and is the nation's flag carrier airline. It also oversees a fleet of 12 planes made up of Airbus and ATR aircraft.
Air Mauritius flies to 20 destinations in Africa, Europe and the Indian Ocean from its hub at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Some of its most popular routes are flights Bombay, Paris, London, Johannesburg and Reunion. To increase the destinations, it's able to offer tickets for, the airline also has codeshare agreements with 5 other airlines including South African Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Emirates, Virgin Australia Airlines and Air France. It is also a member of the Vanilla Alliance, a comparatively new airline alliance that was launched in 2015.
Online check-in
Online check-in is available for Air Mauritius flights, saving passengers time at the airport and enabling them to print out their boarding cards. It is also possible to select a seat during the online check-in process. The earliest that a passenger can check in online is 24 hours before a flight and 3 hours at the latest prior to departure. Up to 9 passengers can check in as a group online, however larger groups will need to check in at the airport. Anyone who is travelling with children under 2 years, as well as passengers who need special assistance, will also have to check in at the airport.
Hand luggage allowance
Air Mauritius baggage allowance entitles Economy class passengers to 1 item of hand luggage and Business class passengers to 2 items of hand luggage. The maximum weight for a single item of hand luggage on an Air Mauritius flight is 7 kg, while the maximum size is a combined length, width and height of up to 115 cm. This is to ensure that hand luggage will fit in the overhead storage or under the airplane seats. Passengers may also take personal items such as coats, blankets, cameras, handbags, laptops, wheelchairs and walking sticks onto the plane. Any overweight or oversized hand luggage will have to be checked into the hold and may incur an additional fee.
Checked baggage allowance
There are different Air Mauritius baggage allowances depending on a passenger's destination and ticket class, In the majority of cases, Economy passengers will have an allowance of 1 suitcase weighing up to 30 kg, while Business passengers will be permitted to bring 2 suitcases each weighing up to 32 kg. These allowances however are by no means universal, and there are weight discrepancies relative to the route flown. it is recommended that a passenger travelling with Air Mauritius reviews their baggage allowance before flying. Any single item of luggage may not have a combined length, width and height of 158 cm. If passengers' luggage is greater than their allowance, a fee will be charged. To avoid this, passengers are able to pay an extra charge before or at the airport to add to their allowance.
