About Conviasa
Conviasa was founded in 2004 with the motto "The pleasure of flying". Its main hub is Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, not far from the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. With a fleet size of 27 aircraft and a network of over 20 destinations, Conviasa is the flag carrier and largest airline of Venezuela. The airline's name is an acronym for Consorcio Venezolano de Industrias Aeronáuticas y Servicios Aéreos, S.A.
The 22 destinations currently serviced by Conviasa cover domestic flights as well as international flights to the Caribbean and popular tourist destinations throughout South America. The airline has announced its intentions to add destinations in the United States and Europe to their current operating network. Under the authority of the Ministry of Aquatic and Air Transport, Conviasa is 80% owned by the government of Venezuela and 20% owned by the regional government of Nueva Esparta.
Online check-in
Online check-in is not available on Conviasa flights, so it is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport early in order to avoid long waiting times at the terminal. Counters for domestic and international flights open 2 hours before the departure of the flight and close 45 minutes prior to departure. In order to begin the check-in process, passengers must be able to present their booking reference code as well as their photo identification at the check-in counter. Any baggage that passengers wish to check in should also be presented at the check-in kiosk.
Hand luggage allowance
Passengers are allowed to take 1 item of hand luggage on board their Conviasa flights as long as the item is no larger than 37 x 25 x 61 cm and does not exceed 8 kg in weight. Hand luggage size and weight restrictions also apply to infant travellers. Larger pieces of hand baggage must be stored in the overhead lockers above the passenger's head whilst smaller pieces should be stored under the seat in front of them. Liquids are allowed on board as long as none of the containers are able to hold more than 100 ml.
Checked baggage allowance
Passengers on a Conviasa flight are allowed to check in 1 item of luggage for domestic flights, and 2 items for intercontinental journeys. The maximum weight allowance for each item of luggage must not exceed 23 kg. Checked luggage allowance and weight restrictions also apply to infant travellers. Additional luggage can also be booked depending on the route, while allowances can also be made for wheelchairs, infant strollers, musical instruments and sporting equipment. These items should be pre-booked when purchasing your ticket, otherwise additional fees will be charged at the airport.
