The plane was almost 3 hours late. I was promised an option to fly the next day as the delay meant I could not get to my destination 2 hours outside of Rome that night. After leaving the airport assured I was then told I could not fly and would not be able to fly at any later date.

If it’s stated in their policy that passengers should take 1 hand luggage only in the cabin then they should stick with this. There were people with 2 hand luggage put up in the cabins and us with one hand luggage only were asked to put it under the front seat - which would have been very uncomfortable since it was already economy flight .
