About TUIFly

TUIfly is a German air carrier that focuses on leisure destinations, while also operating a mixture of both scheduled and charter services. It was established in the 2007 as a result of a merger between Hapag Lloyd Express and Hapag Lloyd Flug. Its main operations are at Hannover Airport, however it also has bases at Stuttgart Airport, Cologne Bonn Airport, Saarbrucken Airport, Dusseldorf Airport, Munich Airport and Frankfurt Airport. Spread across these bases is its fleet of 40 planes.

The airline serves nearly 40 destinations in popular holiday spots across Europe, Asia and Africa. A few of its top routes include those to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt, Corfu in Greece, Ibiza in Spain and Dalaman in Turkey. It is part of the TUI Airlines group along with Corsair, Jetairfly, Thomson Airways, TUI Airlines Netherlands and TUIfly Nordic. It also has a partnership with Air Berlin and operates German domestic flights on behalf of it.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in for TUIfly flights online as early as 30 days before their flight is scheduled to depart, right up until 5 hours before take-off. The only exception to this is a flight departing from Kos, where online check-in opens 48 hours before a flight. Passengers who have checked in online can drop their luggage off at the airline's check-in counters. Passengers can also check in at the airport up until 45 minutes before departure, or 1 hour before departure for flights leaving from Tel Aviv. There is an additional fee for each passenger who checks in at the airport rather than online.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers on a TUIfly flight are entitled to bring 1 item of hand luggage into the cabin of the airplane. This item of hand luggage cannot weigh more than 6 kg and must not be larger than 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Hand luggage should be stored either beneath the seat in front of the passenger or in the storage lockers overhead. Some musical instruments and sporting equipment can also be carried as hand luggage provided they fall within the size and weight restrictions. Any passengers found to be carrying hand luggage that does exceed the limitations mentioned above will be charged to have it checked in at the gate and transported in the aircraft's hold.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers who booked a Pure fare on a TUIfly flight are not entitled to check in any luggage. Passengers who booked the Perfect fare may check in up to 20 kg of luggage. Additional luggage allowance can be purchased online in blocks of 5 kg. Passengers will be charged excess baggage fees if they check in overweight luggage. The maximum weight for any one item of checked luggage is 32 kg, while the maximum size is 80 x 65 x 45 cm. Baggage that exceeds the limits permitted will not be carried by the airline on the basis of health and safety rules.
