Hot in November: The Maldives

1,200 tropical islands scattered around the idyllic Arabian sea make up the Maldives, one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.  The surf season is coming to an end in November, but off-shore winds and cooler breezes mean that you’re still bound to find some good surfing days during this month. The visibility of the water starts to clear of plankton in November too, making it an excellent time for snorkeling and scuba diving. Luxury hospitality and 5-star service is what the Maldives is all about. If that sounds like the ideal holiday for you, book your hotel in Malé (the capital of the Maldives) early to get the best price. Then just sit back, relax, and enjoy the winter-sun.

Mexico

The rains have generally eased across most of Mexico by the time November rolls around. The temperature is warm (around 25°C – 30°C depending on where you are), and the large number of tourists who arrive in Mexico at the start of December are yet to arrive.

Mexico's day of the dead in November

In central and southern Mexico, one of the countries biggest festivities takes place on the 1st and 2nd of November: the Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. The Day of the Dead is a celebration with family members who have passed on. Rather than remembering the dead, the Mexicans celebrate with them, believing the souls of the departed to be present. Stories are told of the deceased, and the favourite foods and drinks of those who have departed are eaten. In many cities in Mexico, such as Oaxaca and Michoacán, the Day of the Dead is the biggest holiday of the year. Join in on the festivities and visit Mexico in November: the best time of year!

USA

The USA is huge, so, granted, it’s not all hot in November. If you choose your destination without checking the temperature first, you might end up on the snowy peaks of the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. Lovely, but not quite the hot winter-sun destination you’re looking for. So, where is hot in November in the USA? Here are a few of our favourite places:

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston, the biggest city in South Carolina, has high temperatures of 20°C during the day in November. Charleston is full of history, and its tumultuous past is remembered throughout. It’s a city that was built on slave labour, and many of the most important sights to see are reminders of this past, serving to educate visitors. One of the most poignant sights is Middleton Place, once a plantation in the 18th and 19th centuries, it is now a museum that tells the story of slavery in America.

You won’t receive a warmer welcome anywhere else in the world. It’s a small, intimate city with a roaring food scene and some of the best chefs in the world. Try the regional dish of fried green tomatoes – a tangy flavour that really packs a punch.
