About Aerolineas Argentinas

Argentina's flag carrier airline Aerolineas Argentinas is based in the nation's capital of Buenos Aires. It operates from a primary hub at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and its secondary hub located at Ministro Pistarini International Airport, both in the Argentinian capital. It also has focus cities in Cordoba and Rosario. The airline was created in 1949 when Aeroposta Argentina, Aviacion del Litoral Fluvial Argentino, Flota Aerea Mercante Argentina and Zonas Oeste y Norte fr Aerolineas Argentinas were merged into a single state-owned airline. It is no longer state-owned however and currently has a fleet of more than 50 Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

Aerolineas Argentinas operates services to nearly 60 destinations mostly within South America, but also further afield. Popular routes include flights to Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, London and Miami. In 2012, the airline joined the SkyTeam alliance and became the first South American airline to do so. It also has several codeshare agreements in place with airlines including KLM, Aeroflot and Air New Zealand.

Online check-in

Online check-in is not available on all Aerolineas Argentinas flights. It is however available on Argentinian domestic flights to and from Bogota, San Salvador de Bahia, Asuncion, San Pablo, Caracas, Santiago de Chile, Lima, Cruz de la Sierra, Montevideo, Florianopolis, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro and Punta del Este. In addition to this, it is also not available to passengers with a paper ticket, children under 12 who are unaccompanied, groups of more than 7 passengers or those that need special assistance. For passengers who are able to check in online, this service is open from 36 hours up until 2 hours prior to a flight's scheduled departure.

Hand luggage allowance

Economy class passengers are allowed to bring 1 item of hand luggage weighing up to 5 kg on board their Aerolineas Argentinas flight on domestic routes, while Club Economy passengers are entitled to 1 item of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg on board their flight. On international flights, all passengers can bring 1 item of hand luggage weighing up to 10 kg. On all flights, items of hand luggage must not exceed 55 x 35 x 25 cm in size. Any hand luggage that is either overweight or oversized will have to be checked in to the hold. This may come at an extra cost to the passenger.

Checked baggage allowance

Checked baggage allowances on an Aerolineas Argentinas flight varies by route. On domestic flights, Economy passengers can check in 1 item weighing up to 15 kg, Club Economy passengers can check in 2 items each weighing up to 23 kg, and infants, only a stroller. On international flights, the checked luggage allowance varies, and may be 1 item weighing a maximum of 23 kg up to 3 items each weighing a maximum of 23 kg, depending on the route and cabin class. On all routes, infants are entitled to check in a stroller and up to 10 kg of luggage. Checked luggage items are limited to maximum combined dimensions of 158 cm.

Aerolineas flight was very expensive relative to the distance travelled. Queues to get through checkin, security and passport control horrendous. Allow 2 hours plus for queuing.
