About Porter Airlines

Porter Airlines is a Canadian regional carrier that was founded in 2006 and commenced operations in the same year. It is based in Toronto at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and uses propeller planes to fly to other major Canadian and United States cities that are within range. It addition to its Toronto hub, the airline focuses on flights to Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Ottawa Macdonald Cartier International Airport and Halifax Stanfield International Airport. It has a fleet of 26 Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 airplanes.

There are Porter Airlines flights available to a total of 24 destinations, including popular flights to Boston, Chicago, Ottawa and Windsor. The airline has a number of interline agreements in place to make it easier for passengers to book connecting flight on to further destinations. These agreements are with Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Icelandair, El Al Israel Airlines, JetBlue and Sata International.

Online check-in

In order to check in online for a Porter Airlines flight, passengers will need their booking confirmation code and last name. They can do this starting from 24 hours before their flight is scheduled to leave. It also gives them the option to add to their existing luggage allowance. When this is done, passengers can then print their boarding card. Mobile check-in provides a second option and allows passengers to download a mobile boarding card. The airline also provides airport kiosks and check-in counters as further options for passengers to utilise. Passengers can check in at the airport up to 1 hour before their scheduled departure.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers may bring 2 pieces of hand luggage on board their Porter Airlines flight made up of 1 standard piece and 1 personal item. The standard piece should be no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm and no heavier than 9 kg, while the personal item must be no bigger than 33 x 43 x 16 cm or 9 kg in weight. Anyone travelling with a child 2 years or less may also bring a diaper bag at no extra charge. Hand luggage must fit in the storage provided in the airplane's cabin, whether beneath the aircraft's seats or in the overhead lockers. Some items such as coats, cameras, children's strollers or mobility aids such as canes do not count towards a passenger's hand luggage allowance.

Checked baggage allowance

Not all Porter Airlines flight bookings include a checked luggage allowance, such as the Firm and Flexible fare types. Checked luggage for these flights can however, be purchased as an extra. The freedom fare type allows passengers to check in 2 items of luggage each weighing up to 23 kg. Any luggage items that are heavier than 23 kg will be subject to an excess baggage fee, while luggage items weighing more than 32 kg will not be carried by the airline. The airline will accept musical instruments as checked luggage, as long as they are packed correctly and conform to checked luggage size and weight restrictions.
