Vietnam Airlines is Vietnam's national flag carrier airline and is based in the country's capital of Hanoi. It was founded in 1956 and became a government enterprise in 1989. It has two main hubs, one at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and one at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon. It also has a secondary hub at Da Nang International Airport, while Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are its focus cities. Its fleet is nearly 100 aircraft strong.
Vietnam Airlines serves more than 50 destinations across various continents. Among its many various destinations, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Nanjing, Tokyo, Paris, Sydney, Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur stand out as the most popular routes. The company joined the SkyTeam alliance in 2010 and was the first Southeast Asian airline to do so. It also has codeshare arrangements for flights with a number of other carriers, including All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Jet Airways and others.
Online check-in for Vietnam Airlines flights opens 24 hours before a flight is due to take off and closes again 2 hours before departure. This service is available for groups of up to 9 people. During online check-in, passengers can also choose the location of their seats on the flight. Once they have successfully checked in online, passengers are able to print their boarding cards. If passengers prefer, they can also check in for their Vietnam Airlines flight at the airport. For airport check-in, passengers should head to the airline's counters at least 1 hour before domestic flights and at least 2 hours before international flights.
Economy and Premium Economy passengers are entitled to bring 1 item of hand luggage on board a Vietnam Airlines flight, while Business class passengers are allowed to bring 2 items. The airline's weight limit for each item of hand luggage is 7 kg with the size limit for each item being a maximum of 56 x 36 x 23 cm. Any passenger's luggage that exceeds these limits, whether it be by number of items, weight or size, will have to be checked in to the aircraft's hold. In that case, they may also be charged an extra cost for that service.
On all Vietnam Airlines flights, passengers in Economy or Premium class are entitled to check in up to 20 kg of luggage, while passengers in Business class are entitled to bring up to 30 kg of checked luggage. Items of checked luggage may not exceed a combined width, height and length of 203 cm. There are excess baggage fees in place for passengers whose luggage does not fit within their allowance. If any single item of checked luggage weighs more than 32 kg the airline will not carry it due to health and safety concerns. Instead, items of more than 32 kg must be shipped as cargo.
Loved Vietnam Airlines. Such nice crew comfortable plane and even got me seats with extra leg room as I’m so very tall. I’d fly with them as my first choice next time
Very good flight all on time nice service
All was excellent except less food was available on flight back to London
We booked 3 flights with Vietnam Airlines- 2 operated by Cambodia Angkor Air and 1 by Vietnam. All very good. modern A320 jets very professional flights (and I’m a retired airline pilot!). No cabin service on 2 short hops (no problem) and v.good hot meal / drinks etc incl on 2 hr international flight.
Safe airline new Airbus 321. Lovely service with a smile. Snack and drink provided
It could be perfect if we have had our reserved seat. I choose and paid 2 seat from london to vietnam and vietnam to ph, but was given to different travelers, i am very disappointed the fact that i lost that seat for our 12 hours journey.
Good
Superb staff. Couldn't believe they served lunch on a 1.5 hour flight. Amazing! Good leg room and seat space.
Fantastic flight, the food was really good, the service was excellent they couldn't do enough for you and really lovely crew. The seats were comfortable especially when it went into a bed and the aircraft was very clean. The transition between flights was very easy and the boarding was good and both flights bang on time
Vietnam Airlines are a good and safe organisation. Their flights go on time and are reliable. The aircraft are clean and tidy and cabin crews seem to be competent.
Brand new plane, friendly attendants, flight on time, food ok. Lounge in Hanoi is relatively basic but ok.
Vietnam Airlines need to train their staff better on how to deal with Chinese passengers especially group customers
Cramped seats. Service on board variable.
Flight delayed but no notification on website.
Inflight service from London to Hanoi was poor. Drinks ordered with the food did not come until after we had almost finished our meal. We were not offered a refill. No bottom sheet was offered for the bed.
