About Eva Air
EVA Air is a Taiwanese air carrier that has its headquarters located near Taipei in Taoyuan City. It was founded in 1989 and is now Taiwan's second biggest air carrier. Its main hubs are currently situated at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, and Kaohsiung International Airport and Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. The airline has a fleet of more than 60 aircraft, including Airbus A321s and Boeing 777s, which it utilises to travel to cities across 4 continents.
EVA Air flies to more than 40 destinations across North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Some of its most common local routes include EVA Air flights to Bangkok and Macau, while further from home, flight paths to Paris, London and Vancouver are also popular. While the Paris flight is non-stop, other EVA flights to Europe all connect through Bangkok. It is part of the Star Alliance and also operates codeshare flights with 12 other airlines, including Air China, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines and more.
Online check-in
Online check-in is available on the majority of EVA Air flights. While passengers can check in online for flights leaving from most European and Asian airports, the U.S. and Australia are notable exceptions where self-printed boarding cards cannot be used. If passengers check in online and do not have any luggage, they can go straight to their boarding gate, they must also be at the boarding gate no later than 30 minutes before their flight is due to leave. If passengers do have luggage to check in, they should do so a minimum of 1 hour before their flight is due to leave.
Hand luggage allowance
Economy or Elite class passengers may take 1 piece of hand luggage, up to a maximum weight of 7 kg. Passengers in the Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel or Business classes can take 2 pieces of hand luggage, each of which can weigh up to 7 kg. The maximum size for items of hand luggage is 23 x 36 x 56 cm. EVA Air reviews the size of hand luggage at the gate, and there may be a charge for oversized or overweight pieces as they will have to be checked in to the hold. As well as their main allowance, passengers may also bring another small item such as a handbag, briefcase, camera or laptop. Passengers travelling with infants are also able to bring a stroller or car seat.
Checked baggage allowance
EVA Air flights have different checked baggage allowance depending on the route in question. On flights to anywhere except North, Central and South America, the airline uses a weight system to determine prices. Economy passengers have a 20 kg allowance; Elite passengers have a 25 kg allowance; Business, Premium Laurel and Royal Laurel have a 30 kg allowance and Infants who do not have their own seat have a 10 kg allowance. On flights to or from North, Central or South America, luggage allowances are based on quantity of items to be checked. All passengers on these flights are allowed 2 checked bags. Economy passenger's luggage may weigh up to 23 kg each, while for Elite passengers 28 kg is permitted. Business, Premium Laurel and Royal Laurel have a maximum weight limit of 32 kg. An exception is young children, who are allowed 1 item with a maximum weight of 10 kg.
