Transavia is a low-cost carrier from the Netherlands that is owned by the Air France KLM group. Transavia was also founded 1965 and originally went by the name Transavia Holland. The airline operates its flights from bases at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport, Groningen Airport Eelde, Rotterdam, The Hague Airport and Munich Airport. The airline operates flights to over 90 destinations with its fleet of 35 Boeing 737 aircraft.
Transavia flights go to various airports in Europe and Africa plus Asian destinations around the Mediterranean. Its aircraft cover more than 20 different countries. Some particularly popular routes are those to Paphos, Brussels, Paris, Athens, Venice and Madrid. Further afield, it also flies to Tel Aviv, Antalya, Marrakech and Banjul. The airline has codeshare operations with Delta Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, but is not affiliated with any airline alliance. It also has a French subsidiary airline, which is called Transavia France .
Passengers can check in online for Transavia flights up to 30 hours in advance. While they are checking in online, passengers have the option to add to their checked luggage allowance. Online check-in closes 4 hours prior to a flight's scheduled take-off time. The airline currently provides baggage drop-off counters for the convenience of passengers who have checked in online. Passengers can also check in at the airport. There is no additional fee for this. Transavia's airport check-in counters open between 2 and 3 hours before a flight and close again between 85 and 40 minutes prior to departure, depending on the route of the flight.
Passengers are allowed to bring only 1 hand luggage item on a Transavia flight that cannot weigh any more than 10 kg. Hand luggage that is smaller than 45 x 40 x 25 cm is guaranteed by the airline to be carried in the aircraft's cabin. Hand luggage with dimensions up to 55 x 40 x 25 cm is permitted but it not guaranteed to be carried in the aircraft's cabin. If there is a problem with space then hand luggage of this size will be checked into the hold, however passengers will not be charged in this case. Passengers on the airline's Max fare are also allowed to bring an extra personal item onto the plane, such as a laptop case or handbag.
Checked luggage is not included with standard fares on a Transavia flight, but passengers can choose to add a checked luggage allowance to their booking as long as they have not yet checked in. After they have checked in, passengers can no longer add to their luggage allowance. The maximum allowance that a passenger can purchase is up to 50 kg. This can be distributed among no more than 5 items. Each individual item is subject to an upper limit of 32 kg. If the baggage exceeds this weight however, the airline can refuse to carry it and passengers may be required to pay a fee at the airport check-in counter.
