Jetstar Airways is a low-cost airline from Australia and is a subsidiary of Qantas Airways. It was founded in 2003 to compete with Virgin Blue in the budget flyer category and has its headquarters located in Melbourne, Australia. Its main hub is at Melbourne Airport, however it does have several smaller hubs at Auckland Airport, Sydney Airport, Gold Coast Airport, Brisbane Airport and Cairns Airport. Denpasar, Adelaide and Perth are its primary focus cities.
Jetstar Airways' fleet of 70 Boeing and Airbus planes are used to service nearly 40 destinations across Asia and the Oceania. Some of the most popular routes include Jetstar's New Zealand flights to Auckland and Wellington and Asian flights to Tokyo and Bangkok. The airline has been a part of the oneworld alliance since 2011 and has codeshares with American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Qantas and Emirates. It is part of the Jetstar Group, which also includes Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific Airlines and Jetstar Asia.
Online check-in for international flights is available between 48 hours to 2 hours before scheduled flight departure. For domestic flights, it is available from two days up until 1 hour before flight departure. However, online check-in isn't available for bookings with children or special service requests (assistance for passengers with wheelchairs, the visually or hearing impaired, extra seats etc). Passengers need to check-in directly at the airport if their flight has been booked with a special service request. For this reason, passengers on Jetstar Airways flights are advised to check the individual conditions of the carrier, especially when concerning a multi-stop flight
Economy class passengers can bring up to 7 kg of hand luggage onto their Jetstar flight, while Business class passengers are permitted to carry up to 14 kg. This weight allowance also allows Economy passengers to bring 1 bag plus a personal item and Business passengers 2 bags plus a personal item. The maximum size for hand luggage is 56 x 36 x 23 cm, or 48 x 34 x 23 cm on New Zealand regional flights. Passengers will be charged a fee if their hand luggage weighs more than these limits when they arrive at the airport and be asked to check in their bag.
The airline offers a variety of different fares, all of which have different weight stipulations for what luggage they can bring on their Jetstar flight. There is no checked baggage included with Economy Starter fares but passengers can buy an additional allowance of between 15 kg and 40 kg. There is also a 20 kg allowance included with Starter fares that have the Plus bundle, a 30 kg allowance included with Starter fares that have the Max bundle, and Business fares. Any passengers travelling with small children can also take a stroller or car seat as part of their baggage. Passengers will have to pay a fee if they exceed their luggage allowance.
Flight was excellent the aircraft was spotlessly clean and the seats very comfortable. The cabin staff was excellent and very friendly.
After my flight with a previous airline was turned back at a nearby airport due to flooding I was very pleased to get to see my son on my visit from England
No complaints about any part of this trip
Very good except that we found out there were 2 airports for Melbourne and we were flying to the wrong one to pick up our hire car!
Good legroom for a budget airline
Due to mess ups with the baggage being put onto different carousels we would have missed our connecting flight. If it weren’t for the sheer fact that I pushed to the front desk and told the girl we would have missed out on Dhatk diving in Port Lincoln resulting in me losing over £1k!!!!
Easy to check in, simple instructions.
Easy to book and check in. Cabin crew were helpful. Not bad for a budget airline
You get what you pay for I suppose but it’s not the most comfortable ride beyond an hour or two. Knee space is poor and the seats don’t have a great head rest at all.
jetstars assisted travel is the worst in the world i was issued with a wheel chair and my 10year old was told he had to push it.
I feel a complimentary bottle of water should be provided to ensure hydration and health as it was a 3 hr flight
The departure was delayed by 2 hours. Therefore we arrived in Melbourne after midnight and the public means of transportation had stopped for the day so I couldn't go to the house I was to be hosted. The near to the airport hotels were all fully booked so I had to stay overnight at the airport. Overall I spent more than 14 hours at the airport until next afternoon.
Plane was cold. Had to pay $20 for a blanket. Offered one glass of water all trip. No drinks of food offered to purchase on a nice ne hour flight!!
