Delta Air Lines was founded in 1924 and began operations 5 years later in 1929. Its headquarters are located in Atlanta, Georgia, however it has numerous hubs in the US as well as in Europe and Japan, such as at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Narita International Airport in Tokyo. It has a fleet size of over 800 aircraft that fly to more than 325 destinations around the world. One of the original members of the SkyTeam alliance, it has joint venture agreements with airlines such as Alitalia, Virgin Australia, Virgin Atlantic and Air France-KLM.

Delta Air Lines has codeshare agreements with various airlines including Jet Airways, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. It flies to many cities around the world including the Italian destinations of Milan, Venice and Rome. Alternatively, passengers can also take a Delta flight to the German destinations of Düsseldorf, Munich and Stuttgart plus the Colombian destinations of Medellin, Cartagena and Bogotá.

Online check-in

Online check-in is available from 24 hours prior to departure. In order to check into a Delta flight, passengers must enter their ticket or credit card number. It will then be possible to select the passengers name travelling on the flight and the amount of checked luggage they will take on the plane. At this stage, it will still be possible to make changes such as upgrading the seat or paying for extra baggage. Once the check-in process has been complete, it will be possible to print off the boarding pass or, depending on the departure airport, have the boarding pass sent to a mobile device.

Hand luggage allowance

All passengers travelling on Delta flights can take 1 piece of hold baggage with them on board free of charge. The luggage may not be larger than 56 x 35 x 23 cm. There is no weight limit on the hand luggage for most flight routes. In addition to the hand luggage, passengers are also allowed to take a personal item for free such as a camera, laptop, handbag or purse. Hold luggage and personal items must be able to be stored in the overhead lockers. Liquids are allowed on board however each container should not exceed 100 ml. Each liquid container must be able to fit into a sealed plastic bag.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of checked luggage a passenger is allowed to take with them depends on the flight route they are travelling as well as the type of ticket they have purchased. It is possible to check in online from 24 hours prior to departure. When checking-in, passengers can enter the amount of luggage they would like to take with them and pay any charges if necessary. Most sport equipment is allowed on the flight however additional baggage charges could apply if the equipment exceeds the size and weight restrictions. Musical instruments can also be taken on board as either hold or checked luggage, depending on how large or heavy the instrument is.
