avoid short connections at Shanghai as you are often required to collect a transit visa if you and your luggage are not ticketed through. You then have to collect your luggage pass through customs go to Arrivals and check in at Departures. and then pass through security and immigration. This took me 2.5 hours on a quiet day. China Eastern staff do not understand these procedures and do not offer help.

One of my connections flights were cancelled and I had to spend a full day in Shanghai. I wasn't compensated for that. Cabin crew give you a different food to what you have ordered (rice or noodles). When you call their attention saying that you didn't ordered rice they take the meal and come back again giving you another meal and saying it is noodles now. When you unwrap it you realize it's still rice. That could happen several times in a row. Finally you eat the rice not to have to ask for it again. In general cabin crew was nice though. Food is fairly bad.

Worse flight ever! Was delayed for 3 hours from Philippines and no explanations given nor apologies. When we got to Shanghai airport staff were so rude no offered help or support was pushed to go here and there shouting no empathy and seemed it was our fault to have been delayed. Instead of London Heathrow offered Gatwick which meant i had to pay and travel far going home. We were treated like priso ers. Bearing in mind we paid thousand ( almost £2k) for this journey. Never again will i or my family will take this airline . First and last ! Really bad experience to say the least.
