About Wowair

INFORMATION UPDATE: On 28 March 2019, Wowair shut down their operations, and are no longer offering Wowair flights. The information below refers to the period Wowair was still operating.

Like Icelandair, Wowair is based at Keflavík International Airport in Reykjavik. It is a low-cost carrier that operates on a similar model to Norwegian Air International, providing air services to locations in Scandinavia, Western Europe and North America. Wowair flights began on a scheduled basis in 2012 after the company officially incorporated in the autumn of 2011. Just a few months into its operations, Wowair acquired Iceland Express, another budget passenger service carrier. At this time, services between Gatwick Airport in London were augmented and the airline also began to provide flights to Copenhagen, Berlin, Salzburg and Warsaw. In 2015, Wowair started trans-Atlantic services to the United States, competing with the big carriers such as British Airways and American Airlines. However, all services from Europe to America and back again were subject to a touchdown in the mid-Atlantic in Reykjavik. In 2016, Wowair began operating similar services to Canadian destinations. By the middle of 2017, the operator was flying to a total of 34 different destinations around the globe, including those in the Middle East. Its total passenger numbers by that time were approaching the 2 million mark. Wowair's fleet is made up entirely of Airbus aircraft, mostly A321-200s. It started taking delivery of Airbus A330-900neos in 2018.

How do I check in online with Wowair?

Wowair check-in policy allows passengers to use an online procedure from the day before their flight. At any point from 24 hours before the service is about to take off, it is possible to log on to the check-in page of their website and confirm your flight details. All that is needed is your reservation reference. An important thing to note is that online check-in is no longer possible in the final hour before a flight is scheduled to run, nor does Wowair allow online check-ins for parties in a single group with ten or more passengers. You will need to check in at the airport in order to be processed if you are a larger than average group. Once your check-in has been processed online, it is no longer possible to alter details, such as the name of the ticket holder, the preferred service or the seat allocation that has been chosen. After the procedure of checking in online has been completed, Wowair will provide you with a boarding pass to print out. For passengers without a printer, this can be stored on a smart device and presented at the departure gate in lieu of a printed version.

What is my checked baggage allowance on Wowair?

As a low-cost airline, Wowair baggage allowance is limited. For a basic ticket price, no checked luggage is allowed. However, when you choose to purchase your ticket, a matrix of prices with additional options if offered, including the ability to take checked baggage with you, which will be placed in the hold of the aircraft. In the vast majority of cases, the checked baggage allowance is 20 kg for each passenger with the right ticket type. Up to three items of baggage per ticket holder can be placed in the hold. Items weighing more than 20 kg are charged for and no bag may exceed 32 kg. Checked baggage rules for the airline state that no bag may exceed 158 cm in any dimension. Oversized baggage is allowed but this must be checked in separately and a fee for it will be applied once it has been assessed.

What hand luggage can I take on Wowair?

Like other airlines, Wowair cabin baggage is restricted to ensure that it will fit into the aircraft's overhead lockers. Firstly, a single personal item that does not exceed dimensions of 42 cm x 32 cm x 25 cm is allowed, which means that most small laptop bags or handbags will be permitted on a service. In addition, passengers are allowed to take on board hand luggage that does not exceed a size of 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm. Bear in mind that the wheels and handles of your bag are included as part of these dimensions. Carry-on items are checked when you check in your hold luggage, and items that are too large will be placed in the hold – at an extra cost if this means that your checked luggage allowance is exceeded. Finally, passengers on Wowair flights should note that their hand luggage may not weigh any more than 12 kg or it will not be allowed into the cabin with you.

Where does Wowair fly from?

The number of Wowair destinations has grown rapidly as the airline has expanded its operations throughout North America, Europe and parts of Asia. Most of its services either run from Reykjavik or provide a stopover there, and passengers on trans-Atlantic services are encouraged to rest in the Icelandic capital for a night or two – something that can be arranged with Wowair at no extra cost. I was stung with a charge at the airport of £60 as your website would not link through to baggage information correctly and I was under the impression it was included

Check in was horrendous. Clearly lack if staff. Same with boarding. We queued 1 hour for check in with any other airline it would have taken 15-20 minutes! Staff members -only two of them were disinterested/keen/rude
