Virgin Atlantic is headquartered in Crawley near London in the United Kingdom and is a full-service carrier. The airline was originally created in 1984 under the name British Atlantic Airways and now operates from 3 airport hubs, including one at London Heathrow Airport, one at Manchester Airport and one at London Gatwick Airport. From these hubs, its fleet of 40 planes flies all over the world. The most common aircraft in its fleet is the Boeing 787.
The airline flies to a host of destinations across the globe, with holidaymakers being able to find cheap Virgin Atlantic flights to Belfast as easily as they can make a Virgin Atlantic booking to Antigua. Virgin Atlantic deals with destinations in the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Europe. Although it has not joined an airline alliance, the airline operates codeshares with Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Delta Air Lines, Jet Airways, Air China, All Nippon Airways and Flybe.
Online check-in opens 24 hours before Virgin Atlantic flights are scheduled to depart. Passengers are required to have their booking reference code in order to do so. While checking in online, passengers will have the option to select a seat for their journey or pay to increase their checked luggage allowance. Once they have checked in, passengers will also be able to print boarding cards for the flight. Online check-in closes 70 before a flight's scheduled departure time. It is also possible for passengers to check in at the airport, either by going to the check-in counter or by using a self-service kiosk.
Economy and Premium Economy passengers may take 1 item of hand luggage onto their Virgin Atlantic flights with them. The maximum weight for this item is 10 kg, and it must not be larger than 23 cm x 36 cm x 56 cm. For passengers travelling in Upper class, the hand luggage is increased to 2 pieces with a combined weight of up to 16 kg, however the maximum size is still the same for these pieces as it is for Economy passengers. Infants younger than 2 are allowed 1 piece of hand luggage with a maximum weight of 6 kg.
Checked baggage varies based on the type of Virgin Atlantic booking a passenger has made. There is a limit of 1 piece of luggage weighing up to 23 kg for Economy bookings, 2 pieces each weighing up to 23 kg for Premium Economy bookings and 3 pieces each weighing up to 32 kg for Upper class bookings. 90 x 75 x 43 cm is the maximum size for checked luggage items. Children under the age of 2 are allowed 1 piece of baggage and a collapsible stroller. On top of that allowance, passengers can take up to 23 kg of sports equipment. An excess baggage fee will be charged on any items that exceed the relevant allowance.
It wasn't virgin Atlantic it was delta, which was fine. Good aircraft, nice staff, good food. Delayed at Detroit partly due to tragic events in Florida but also due to extra mail put onboard, bizarre ! This meant aircraft being brought back to the air bridge for extra fuel.
The quality is different compared to a similar flight to another destination.
Return flight meals insuffient to give rice cakes instead of gluten free bread. So called breakfast on Delta flight was a banana, rice cakes and a portion of honey- no knife or butter so I ate the banana!
Really impressed with Virgin. Was first time flew with them. Excellent on all aspects.
Gluten free meals were good on the way out, but appalling on the way back!
The flight on VS was good. I got lthe ow fat food that I ordered during online check in and the food was good. The trturn ticket was over £800 including tax cause I bought it very near travel time.
Virgin staff and crew were brilliant, so helpful and friendly. Will definitely fly Virgin again.
I bought this flight thinking it was a Virgin flight but it was a Delta codeshare. I won't be flying Virgin again. HOWEVER the staff were lovely-seats were made for elves so tiny
Comfortable flight but unfortunately surrounded by 5 - 7 year old noisy children in business class, with disinterested parents.
I was sitting on the economy flight, I asked the flight attendant if I can sit on the leg room, she said yes I can. Then another flight stewardess came back and said that the manager said we have to pay if we want to sit. That's a bit harsh. After few hours of the flight, the gentleman steward allowed another passenger to sit on the 3 seats so she was lying down there. It's unfair and it just shows how you value money more then your customers who are loyal. I will definitely send a complain and tweet about this.
No room on virgin plane. Very uncomfortable
I thought this period the price will be less expensive but it was not. It was more expensive than BA and Arik. Get better price
Provide child option of veg or no veg. During transition between SF and LA - one suitcase was not loaded onto plane, which caused inconvenience and it appears we were not the only who experienced this problem.
Really poor experience with Virgin Atlantic - on-board service not great, food disgusting with plastic cutlery that broke with first use, unable to hear announcements
