Eurowings
About Eurowings
Eurowings, previously known as Germanwings, is part of the Lufthansa Group and is headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany. It came into being after the merging of Reise-und Industrieflug with Nurnberger Flugdienst in 1993. In addition to its Dusseldorf hub, the airline also operates out of Vienna International Airport, Hamburg Airport and Cologne Bonn Airport. The German low-cost carrier offers both long and short-haul flights using its fleet of 30 airplanes, made up of a mixture of Airbus and Bombardier aircraft.
Eurowings flies to more than 70 different airports spread across Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Included in these destinations are several Eurowings flights to the United Kingdom, including Manchester Airport, Birmingham International Airport, London Heathrow Airport and London Stansted Airport. It also flies to popular holiday destinations such as Barcelona, Bari, Dubrovnik, Prague and Rome in Europe, plus Bangkok, Boston and Varadero elsewhere. The only airline that it operates a codeshare with is United Airlines.
Online check-in
Eurowings online check-in opens from 72 hours before a flight, allowing passengers to reduce the amount of time they spend at the airport. When passengers use the airline's online check-in service, they can also choose a seat for their flight. The Eurowings check-in counters are open from 2 hours up until 30 minutes before a flight in most cases, although this does vary at some airports. At Algiers Airport, check-in counters open 3 and a half hours before a flight and close 1 and a half hours before.
At Casablanca, they are open from 2 and a half hours until 50 minutes before. At Karlsruhe, they are open from 1 hour and a half until half an hour before. At London Heathrow, Palma de Mallorca and Moscow, they are open from 2 hours until 45 minutes before. At Tel Aviv and Tunis, they are open from 2 and a half hours before until 1 hour before. At Pristina and Amsterdam, they are open from 2 hours until 40 minutes before. At Hamburg, they are open from 2 hours until 35 minutes before.
Hand luggage allowance
Checked baggage allowance
On all Eurowings flights there are 3 different fare options. These are Basic, Smart and Best. Each of these fares has a different luggage allowance included. The Basic fare does not include any checked luggage allowance but this can be added online before the flight. The Smart fare entitles passengers to 1 item of checked luggage up to a maximum weight of 23 kg, while the Best fare allows passengers to check in 2 items of baggage, each of which may weigh up to 23 kg. No fares include a sporting equipment allowance but this can be added to a passenger's booking for an additional fee.
