About Niki

Niki became an Austrian subsidiary of Air Berlin when it merged with its parent company in 2011. It has aspects of both a low-cost and a full-service carrier. Headquartered in Schwechat, Austria, the airline operates out of Vienna International Airport and Salzburg Airport. It also flies from Graz, Linz, and Innsbruck. It was founded in 2003 after former Formula One driver Niki Lauda (who was also the founder of Lauda Air) bought the airline Aero Lloyd Austria. It has nearly 20 Airbus planes in its fleet that are generally decorated in the red and white livery of its parent company.

Niki flights serve over 50 destinations including both charter and scheduled services, and cover Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It has services to many popular holiday spots such as Luxor, Paphos, Corfu, Menorca plus many more. Thanks to its status as an Air Berlin subsidiary, it has been an affiliate member of the oneworld alliance since early 2012.

Online check-in

The airline's online check-in service aims to reduce waiting times for its passengers, with the earliest that passengers can check in online for a Niki flight is 30 hours in advance of the scheduled take-off time. For flights to or from Cuba or the United States, the earliest possible time for online check-in is 24 hours before take-off. This service then closes 3 hours before a flight. Apart from those who've booked a JustFly or FlyDeal ticket, passengers can choose their seat on the flight during online check-in. Passengers also have the option of checking in at the airport if they prefer.

Hand luggage allowance

Passenger can carry 1 item of hand luggage on board their Niki flights that must not weigh any more than 8 kg. It should also be of no more than 55 x 40 x 23 cm in size. Business class passengers can take 2 items of hand luggage if they wish, however these 2 items must still weigh less than 8 kg each and measure no more than 55 x 40 x 23 cm in size. All Passengers may also take a handbag or laptop case in addition to the usually allowance. Excess hand baggage will be checked into the cabin, for which passengers may face a fee.

Checked baggage allowance

JustFly passengers cannot check in any luggage for a Niki flight, however FlyDeal and FlyClassic passengers can check in 1 item weighing up to 23 kg. FlyFlex passengers can also each check in 2 items weighing up to 23 kg each. The airline will not charge passengers to check in strollers, car seats and other related items. Passengers will be charged for excess luggage on a per piece basis, up to a maximum of 32 kg. Items in excess of this weight will be refused carriage. Passengers can also add sporting equipment to their allowance online. The charges involved will vary depending on the type of sports equipment to be carried on the flight.
