About Air Iceland

Founded in 1997, Air Iceland mainly services regional destinations as a subsidiary on behalf of Icelandair, which generally focusses of travelling to international locations. Its headquarters are situated in Reykjavík, with a main hub at Reykjavík Airport. It also operates numerous flights to Akureyri Airport, which is its primary focus city. The airline has a fleet of 5 aircraft that currently fly to 13 destinations.

Air Iceland has a codeshare agreement in place with Atlantic Airways, the service provider for all flights to and from Vágar Airport in the Faroe Islands. The airline flies to a number of Icelandic destinations including Egilsstaðir Airport and Ísafjörður Airport. In addition to these locations, it also runs flights to Grimsey Airport, Vopnafjörður Airport and Þórshöfn Airport through Norlandair, plus visits Greenland destinations such as Nuuk, Ittoqqortoormiit and Kulusuk whilst also offering seasonal flights to Ilulissat and Narsarsuaq. The city of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom is also serviced through Icelandair.

Online check-in

It is not currently possible to check in online to Air Iceland flights, however when checking in at the airport, passengers travelling on domestic flights must ensure they do so at least 45 minutes prior to the flight departure. For international flights, passengers should arrive no later than 90 minutes prior to the flight departure.

When travelling from Keflavik Airport to Greenland or the Faroe Islands, it is advisable for passengers to check in at least 2 hours before the flight departs. During busy times of the day, passengers should arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare to avoid missing their flight.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers flying on an Air Iceland flight are allowed to take 1 piece of hand luggage with them on board as long as it does not exceed 6 kg. The size of the baggage may not be larger than 55 x 35 x 25 cm.

Hand luggage must be stored in the overhead lockers above the passengers or, if it is small enough, under the seat in front of them. Liquids can also be taken on board as long as each container is not able to hold more than 100 ml. All containers must be able to fit into a plastic bag and the total quantity should not exceed 1 litre.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of hold baggage a passenger is allowed to take with them on an Air Iceland flight is dependent on the type of ticket they have purchased. For passengers who have purchased a Full flex or Semi flex ticket, up to 20 kg is allowed, while those with a Business Card ticket are able to take up to 30 kg.

For both international and domestic locations, passengers are not allowed to take any single piece of luggage that weights over 20 kg. The amount a passenger is charged for carrying excess luggage depends on whether they are travelling on a domestic or international flight. Passengers should ensure they label their luggage with their name and address.
