Scandinavian Airlines

About Scandinavian Airlines

Scandinavian Airlines, also known as SAS Airlines, is a joint flag carrier airline for Denmark, Norway and Sweden, with headquarters located in Solna, Sweden. It has hubs in all three countries, even though its primary base is in Sweden, situated at Copenhagen Airport in Denmark, Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden and Oslo Gardermoen Airport in Norway. SAS Airlines has further operations at Stavanger Airport, Bergen Airport, Trondheim Airport and Goteborg Landvetter Airport. It was founded in 1946 by the joining of three countries' individual flag carriers, which were at the time, Det Norske Luftfartselskap in Norway, Svensk Interkontinental Lufttrafik in Sweden and Det Danske Luftfartselskab in Denmark.

Today the SAS airline has a fleet of more than 130 aircraft and operates flights to nearly 120 airports around the world. Some of its most popular flights are those to London, Alicante, Beijing and Washington D.C. It was involved in the founding of the Star Alliance in 1997 and remains a member to this day. Besides its alliance membership, the airline also operates codeshares with Icelandair, Etihad Airways, airBaltic and Nextjet.

Online check-in

SAS airlines offer an online check-in service for its passengers' convenience. This service is available from 22 hours up until 1 hour prior to a flight's scheduled departure time. It also allows passengers to perform various other time saving tasks online, such as choose their seat, add to their luggage allowance or pay for luxury lounge access at the airport. After they have checked in online, passengers can print their own boarding cards or those of other passengers on their ticket. If they have luggage to check in, this can be done at self-service kiosks at the airport, or at a counter where check in is also available.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers on SAS flights are entitled to bring 1 item of hand luggage as well as a small laptop bag or handbag. The maximum weight for hand luggage is 8 kg however it must be no larger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm. If they are flying to destinations in Asia or the United States and have a SAS Plus or SAS Business booking, passengers can bring 2 pieces of hand luggage, each of which may weigh up to 8 kg. On some of the airline's smaller aircraft, passengers may be asked to check their hand luggage at the gate. They will not be charged for this.

Checked baggage allowance

Depending on the fare type that they have booked, Scandinavian Airlines passengers will have different checked luggage allowances. SAS Go Light passengers are not entitled to any checked luggage, while SAS Go passengers are entitled to 1 piece of checked luggage that's allowed to weigh up to 23 kg. SAS Plus passengers however are entitled to 2 pieces, which can each weigh up to 23 kg. SAS Business passengers are entitled to 2 pieces, in which each can weigh up to 32 kg. The airline will not carry any individual luggage item that weighs more than 32 kg. Such items must be sent as cargo instead. Passengers will be charged if they exceed their luggage allowance.

I bought the flight for my friend. The original flight was cancelled due to bad weather, so, not wishing to be disappointed, he immediately booked himself onto the lunchtime flight at his own expense. it then turned out that he would have been allowed to change onto the flight free of charge, which is certainly a nice gesture, but he seemed to have trouble obtaining a refund for the ticket he purchased for the lunchtime flight as you apparently can?t refund it within 12 hours of the flight, even though it was within 24 hours of the purchase. Perhaps somebody could look into this for us, as it is clearly exceptional circumstances that led to him having to purchase the second ticket in the first place.

Very old aircraft overdue for repacelement. Carpets worn. Seats broken. Quite dirty. We arrived in Stavanger early and docked at an domestic terminal with onward bus journey to international arrivals and passport control. I booked airport assistance because I am disabled; the wheelchair didn?t turn up on time. The bus left without me. I was left sitting on the tarmac in the wind and rain while radio traffic was needed to find a solution. Eventually the assistant was told to push me through to international arrivals because bus was busy elsewhere.

The plane was hours late leaving Copenhagen. I had to have my dinner in the airport, not sure what the exchange was and got a staggering bill in Canadian dollars. Not impressed. If your plane is so late you should give your customers compensation.
